I think this is an amazing feat, by an 11 (now 12) year old girl from Glasgow. A UK pupil who designed a solar-powered backpack with an electric blanket inside for homeless people is on Time magazine’s first ever Girls of the Year list. Rebecca Young was just 11 when she came up with the device after becoming concerned about people sleeping on the streets during freezing Scottish winters. Her invention charges a battery during the day to heat the blanket at night, and 30 have been distributed to a homeless shelter, with more to come. Now 12, she has been named alongside nine other girls from around the world aged 12-17 as a young leader inspiring communities.
Certainly a better way of helping homeless people than declaring them all criminals and evicting them from the city....
Had quite a good day today. My latest batch of onion bread rolls smell and look great (photo doesn’t do them justice). I have learned two new card tricks and because I haven’t been getting out for walks, owing to the ridiculous heat, I have started doing Tai Chi. Following a couple of guys on YouTube and have done 50 minutes today.
I just did a search on YouTube. Initially found a 7 minute video which has 5 different exercises then found a 15 minute one which is a “flow” type in which all the movements blend together. I have only been doing it for 2 days and do both routines twice a day. You don’t feel as if you are exercising but you can feel that you have been moving. Links below to the ones I have been doing. Those who watched Karate Kid will recognise one of the moves in the second video. I think he calls it the crane. Edit. I was looking for something to replace the walking I haven’t been able to do because of the heat in Spain, but I hope to continue with this as it is a gentle way for an old git (70) to exercise.
Looks good - I may give that a try myself. I was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and on my bad days (lol or as it has been recently weeks), I have replaced my daily 30 min strength workout with Pilates. Really non destructive to the body and really helps keeping you moving. Sucks getting old.
