    Leeds Utd v Everton
    Monday 18th August@20:00 | ER

The wait is over. The roar of a packed Elland Road will once again provide the soundtrack to Premier League football as Leeds United mark their return to the top flight with a Monday night clash against the Toffee's.

Crowned champions with a formidable 100-point tally, Leeds finished their last campaign in imperious form, winning their final six matches to lift the trophy in style. But the relentless pace of the Premier League presents an entirely different challenge, with Everton being a decent the perfect litmus test for Daniel Farke's side.

The Toffees, an established and ever-present top-flight outfit, have become an even tougher nut to crack under the pragmatic leadership of David Moyes, prizing defensive solidity above all else. History, too, looms over this fixture. Recent memory has not been kind to the Whites, who have failed to secure a victory in any of the last five meetings between the clubs.

Leeds have undergone a significant summer overhaul, reinforcing every area of the pitch with experienced talent from across Europe. The recruitment drive signals a clear intent to compete, not just survive. A new era begins between the sticks with Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri, a signing from Lyon, who will be protected by a reshaped defence. Swedish international Gabriel Gudmundsson arrives from Lille to solve the left-back position, while the imposing figures of Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw have been drafted in from Serie A to add steel to the centre of defence, though Bornauw will miss the opener with a calf injury.

In midfield, former Hoffenheim man Anton Stach has already turned heads in pre-season, while the acquisition of ex-Newcastle engine Sean Longstaff adds Premier League experience. Perhaps the most eye-catching business, however, was conducted up front. While former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s debut in a Leeds shirt will have to wait due to a lack of pre-season training, his presence at the club is a major statement.

In his absence, Championship top scorer Joel Piroe is set to lead the line, likely flanked by the familiar pace of Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James. With fellow attacker Lukas Nmecha poised for an impact from the bench and Jack Harrison facing the club where he spent the last two seasons on loan, the subplots are plentiful.

We may not like James Justin but if the deal can be done he is fully fit and can start on Monday so Schmidt doesn’t need to. Bogle could maybe come on later on if fit to get some minutes. Bogle has 4 sessions to get through including Monday morning before Farke decides but he’s been out for two and a half weeks….

Everton are one of the teams Leeds need to beat along with any team from 10th down

I know its only the 1st game but straight away its an important one.
its a game we have to look at and say its a 3 points needed next to it.
I honestly don't know what to think I just want it here and done. I really want to see how we cope because if we struggle here against these on our own patch its going to be a very very long season.
I want us to be the dominant team at fulltime coming off that pitch knowing we did our best and competed with them.

Not sure we’ll dominate anyone in this league. A sneaky one nil win will do. In fact about eleven of them would do nicely. I’ve a feeling these long throws from the keeper could be an effective tactic this season

I used to go by boat back in the 80s, put me off for life. Fri night 23.00 left the North wall for Liverpool, bar shut at 3 in the morning, slept in bar. In Liverpool 9ish, train to Leeds, no staying in Hotels then. Straight back to Liverpool, back around 8ish Dublin Sun morning. Horrendous. But back same trip a few weeks later. Thank **** for Ryanair. Never thought I'd say that Eire. Anyway safe trip. :emoticon-0148-yes:

I feel Everton are there for the taking, don't think they had a good buildup off the pitch.

See Merson and the rest of the pundits mob Sherear,Lineker etc etc all have us down.

Merson even goes as far as saying there is a gulf of Class between Everton and Leeds.
No wonder he lost all his money in betting lol.
Gulf in class but predicts Everton to win in a close game 0-1 lol.
Ya cannit mek this shyte up can you lol.

It’s just so easy to say this about us when clearly the pundits haven’t done research on our signings and who we’ve already got. It’s just like we came up so there’s a gulf in class, it could be correct but think we need to see it on the pitch on Monday. I do think they’re better attack wise than us however we’re better than them in the middle and defensively. Need to get at there right hand side as they’ve got injuries. Want to see a lot of Perri to James.

I used to do similar when I was living in the Isle of Man. Ferry at 7 am to Liverpool. If the crossing was calm then 11 am train from Lime Street to Leeds, else it would be the 12 midday train, which got to Leeds, 20 minutes before kickoff. Train from Leeds to Morecambe, then local train Morecambe to Heysham, just in time for the 1 am Heysham to the Isle of Man. 4 hours sleep then up to play football.

If I tried to do that today, I'd be asleep for the whole week after.

Occasionally I would fly, but the cost of a return flight was the same as 4 return ferry/train journeys at the time and I was trying to justify having a season ticket, so ferry journeys it was :)
