I see James Milner has switched his shirt number to 20 in remembrance of Jota.

I see Chelsea players have given Jota's family and his brother's family an equal share of the bonus pot given to the Chelsea player as if they were in the squad. About 500,000 Euros for each family apparently.

Given jota got the injury he got the surgery for playing against Chelsea that is a really nice and throughly decent gesture.

Not to be cold hearted, but this seems somewhat unnecessary? I’m not sure the family are going to be hard up - if doing anything sure a donation to a foundation or something to benefit those who are in a far less fortunate position ?

I’d have thought the assumption is that it will go towards them setting up some sort of foundation in their names.

You’d hope so anyway, a little vulgar if not I’d agree.

Wonderful gesture if put to great use :emoticon-0148-yes:

I thought the same but thought I'd be in the minority so didn't say.

I also don't like when these type of things get so much publicity.

Three little children have just lost their father and uncle and because of the children's ages, they will never even be able to remember them and people are deciding how much money they should have, whether they deserve it and how it should be spent / dedicated to.

I know and accept that everyone has their own personal thoughts and opinions and are free to express them. There is no right way to respond in these circumstances. I'm just incredibly disappointed in some of the comments.

And that's just me joining in and expressing my thoughts.

Not sure how the two things are related in your first sentence? How much or how little money is given to them won’t help them remember their dad and uncle so it’s somewhat irrelevant?

Still confused to be honest. So does 15m make up for not seeing their dad or uncle? As I don’t think it does tbh

You know when you posted this "Not to be cold hearted ....", you should have left the "Not" off.

As I said, everyone is entitled to their opinions. You've clearly shown where you're coming from. I'm just in a different place to you.

So not actually answered my question. Do you think an extra 15m is going to help an already very wealthy family get over the fact that 2 people died? no amount of money in my opinion is going to help - it won’t bring them back.

Donate it to a charity to help vulnerable people. I’m not sure that is a controversial opinion tbh

Chelsea chose to donate it to the family, because it's a gesture to commemorate the deaths of two particular players, fellow footballers, not just a general fund for the needy.
What the families choose to do with it is up to them.
Seems like an honest attempt to show some empathy and humanity to me, so I'm not sure why suggestions of cynicism or futility are being raised.

I just think it's very nice and gave a potential reason.

The injury happened against Chelsea and the surgery that meant he was driving that road was to repair it fully.

I'm thinking that might have played a small part in their thinking on it but it was very good of them irrespective.

I'm sure lots of money privately is donated by their players to good causes of their own etc rtc

Rute had to come out to say this "foundation" has nothing to do with the family and is a scam seeking funding for personal gain.
