Ah the nerves are starting to jangle, feels so important that we put a good start in to capitalise on this momentum.

Of course it's possible we don't win but I'm expecting us to.

West Ham had a poor end to the season and only won two of their last dozen games. They're not going to be looking at a long trip to Sunderland, against a team that came up through the playoffs, as a 'glamour tie' and we need to take advantage of that ...

... we have the look of a good team now and need to get the crowd up from the start.

A win by any means would be amazing. Would probably convince a couple of targets to sign too.

Point wouldn't be a disaster here mind, off the mark on opening day and avoids us waiting to get off the mark, that said, if we've real designs on staying up this should be considered a winnable fixture.

I've a couple of relatives who are WHU ST holders and they've been bemoaning their bad luck with this opening fixture. They know the SoL will be bouncing and they're very apprehensive about it. That said, they have some quality players and we are going to need to be at it!

Get in RTB lad, love these matchday threads. I cant believe how fast the summer has gone by !
An exciting season ahead, what a time to be a Sunderland supporter, I am like a kid at Christmas waiting for Saturday, I am going for a 3-1 win to the lads with a Xhaka thunderbolt to wrap things up. Enjoy the season everyone, there will be some difficult days ahead but lets savour the season and stick by the lads through thick and thin.

I’m fairly confident we will get three points but I certainly don’t consider this a must win game.
This is virtually a complete new team/squad so for me the most important thing is that they put in a performance that shows they want to succeed and understand the club and what this means to us.
Despite what some believe, we’re not in a relegation battle at this stage, and Moyse is not the manager!
We are Sunderland, and we are back, TO STAY!!

Jamie O Hara on SSN picking us to go down the clownshoe of a man. No reason given just straight in with us to be relegated

About 80% of predictions seem to have all 3 promoted teams going down, which I understand because of the last two seasons but it just seems a bit lazy, at least one of us will stay up this season, I feel very confident about that.

Gabby Agbonlahore on Talk Sport, this morning gave his relegation prediction as Leeds, Burnley & Wolves.

Mrs Malaga is a WHU supporter - although supports us as well

We are on holiday at the moment - and will both be watching, in separate rooms

This could turn out to be a fantastic holiday for me - or not! <laugh>

Can’t wait for the whole day. The town centre will be buzzing and I think the stadium will be rocking.
I’ll be at the ground for 2-30 as I’m expecting queues where I sit because of the sell out, P1 has been great but new supporters will have us chocca block.
3-1 The Lads and a great atmosphere by both sets.

Surely not separate rooms! If we win, you can give her a consolation cuddle after you’ve come down from the ceiling!
If they win, you can tell her you’re really miserable and she needs to console you with a nice cuddle to keep the holiday from being ruined!!
Either way, you get a cuddle! Win, win!:1980_boogie_down:

Excited now. Got up 6 times last year going to try for more this season, think at least 1 a month. Have proper missed it, the drive up with my lad, mooching around town with the energy building, the match and hopefully a happy long drive home. Just loving being about the place, really miss these match days over the summer!

I didn’t get up much during our latter premier years, my last PL home match was the infamous #BruceOut defeat to Wigan. Actually can’t quite believe it’s here!
