Me and my brother drove up and back in a day for that game, the same we are doing this Saturday. I was sitting directly in line with the angle of the shot, so knew the second he hit it that it was going in. My favourite goal I've seen live, probably other than Ross Stewart's playoff final winner.
My outstanding memory of playing West Ham has to be that game when Kieron Brady absolutely ran the game. Ended up 4-3 home win
Wonderful game and the Fulwell End was an absolute joy that match ... ... I didn't see any West Ham fans, on the way back to Mansfield, which robbed us of the chance to mock them
That's quite illuminating mate. One of my main concerns, last season, was how we were bullied out of games, we could've won, by the likes of Leeds ... ... I don't think we're going to have that problem now. I wouldn't want to have most of these lot push in front of me in the taxi queue tbh. "You're fine mate, I think you were here before me to be fair ... ... it's not that cold, I'll wait for the next one."
After a few friendlies, and without having watched all the training sessions, I'm inclined to stick by whatever RLB decides. He seems laser-focussed and happy to drop Mepham, reinstate Watson and hook Dan Neil ... ... that's some cold bloodied shiit right there. I can imagine this being RLBs pre-match talk on Saturday "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you." R Le Bris 25:17. 16/8/25
Going for 1-0 - Trai Hume with a header from a set piece. MOTD pundits will say we got battered and can't play like this all season but we won't care!!
Nice one RTB - thanks as ever. Anyone else looking at the possible team-sheet and finding it just a little bitter-sweet? So many of the lads who got us promoted over 49 games, leaving nothing but blood and sweat on pitches all over England are on the bench. It'll be strange to not see Neil, Rigg, Patterson, Roberts etc. not lining up for the kick-off. I get it, but it's still a little hard not to be a little nostalgic.
Ha'way Hank, @Iptv you're needed ... ... I wonder how long this thread will be allowed to exist https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/a-petition-for-granting-hank-a-pardon.1661785/ It would seem that Hank is banned till September because someone wound him up. However, I cannot imagine starting a new season in the Premier without the habitual Hank early morning "Haway the Lads" thread and indispensable match thread.( I am sure it would bring bad luck and cast a fatal spell on our fight for survival if he were not there) I would like to formally ask that he be granted a pardon and reinstated in time for Saturday. Anyone feeling the same, please adhere to the petition.
Nostalgia is very underrated mate ... ... until recently considered a medical condition, still is in some parts. "Nostalgia was once considered a medical condition, but it is now understood as a complex emotion with both positive and negative aspects."
Agree mate, going to seem strange not hearing the bloke behind me moaning about all of them from the first minute till the last. Cant wait to find out who his boo boy is this year, its the highlight of the match
I know it's daft Smug, but the first thing I looked at when we announced a new signing was their height. We always seem much smaller that the opposition. When Newcastle beat us in the cup match they looked like athletes compared to our lads. I reckon we will match most teams for physicality this season
