I've always quite liked Palace as my stepdad is a season ticket holder. He often gave me a ticket for Liverpool games, but I stopped going, as the last few times i went, we lost and I felt like it was my fault.

They do have a great atmosphere at Selhurst though.

Changes for the new season - Goalkeeper gets 8 seconds to release the ball with ref giving 5 second countdown. If the ball isn't released in time then the opponent gets a corner.

Only captains to speak to referee. (Which I thought was already the case).

Double touch penalties, that aren't intentional, to be retaken.

Im going to bet no club but lfc fall foul of the above rule on keepers.

There are some legendary timewasting keepers who never get punished. Nothing will change after the first weekend where lfc will give a corner away.

After that not one ref will enforce it.

As for the only captains rubbish. utter rot. Thst was brought in and dropped after a couple weeks before. You'll have the same old clubs surrounding refs again as that rule was also ignored after a week or so.

Double touch is a non entity of a rule for a rare rare occurrence

They tinker every year. Punish a couple then stop

The goalkeeper time wasting one I hope is actually kept to all season. I guess though, like the throw in time wasting, it will only be blown for a handful of times. The advantage switch on this would be huge and refs will be too cowardly to enforce it.

First one is a waste of time. Already got a fiver second role that's never implemented, don't see why right seconds will change that. If anything, it makes it less likely to happen.

Captain talking to ref as been a role for ages. Again, never imposed.

Quite like the unintentional double rule. Means a slip doesn't effect it

I think with the goalkeeper one, the referees are to raise a hand and count down their fingers as a show that they are actually counting the time. The awarding of a corner if the ball isn't released quickly enough is too big a change to see refs actually implement it. We know which keepers are the biggest time wasters so it will be interesting to see if they actually voluntarily change their behaviour.

The crazy thing is, I thought all three of these were technically the rules anyway- just rarely enforced (maybe not the 5 second countdown).

I understand the intention, it just won't work because the referees won't implement it. First week or two will pass and then it'll be forgotten

Yeh , currently 6 seconds for the keeper to release the ball but the big change is awarding a corner, that's new. It's usually just a booking and as you were.

Not to be pedantic but it says "a visual five second countdown".

    I don't think they'll enforce it either.

Because I've got nothing better to do today I went and checked out some YouTubes to see where the ref is generally positioned at goal kicks. Very small sample, obviously but the ref was never further than halfway between the penalty box and the halfway line. Bearing in mind we're talking about him watching for time wasting, I'd say that he's more likely to be walking towards a goalkeeper than away from. Anyway , as we've concluded, it's all academic.

It’s more a deterrent anyway. The refs will give them enough warning so they don’t have to give a corner. If any keeper is stupid enough to see and hear 8 seconds being counted down and still not just boot it then that’s their fault.

Heck even just dropping the ball on the floor stops the count.

Rule is a lot better as rather than just randomly blowing the whistle after 6 seconds which only happened once in about 6000 games so keeper had no idea, this one will at least warn them it’s coming.

It was also there during the club World Cup and the women’s euros and went without controversy

They're implementing new rules about hiring. Only people with extra large hands are allowed to apply to be referees now.

the GK doesn't have the ball in his hands at a GK so i'm not sure that clears anything up
