I gave him a mention in my weekend result round-up thread. Good stuff, might just have another home grown gem there! <ok>

Missed that NSS, great news that's for sure :)

I'm always worried for one of our players after a serious injury, I remember the tragedy that befell Dorian Dervitte who looked a fantastic prospect. So pleased to see Caulker back <ok>

Dervitte came back. He is currently playing in the Spanish second division for Villareal's reserves (according to wiki) so hardly a tragedy? He is still only 23.

wasn't Dervitte out for a lot longer than Caulker though? Caulker's only been out a couple of months hasn't he? Dervitte was out for AGES

It's a tragedy to me, and I think to him. By now, but for his injury, he would in all likelihood be playing for us and not in the Spanish second division. So definitely a tragedy, in footballing terms, which is what I was talking about. Yes he's still alive, but that wasn't the issue. That injury has wrecked what could have been a great career at club and international level.

The ones we're hoping to move on are the ones getting ruled out for month on end with injury...

Dervitte's not the only one who had his career wrecked before it technicallly started.

I knew Terry Dixon who I'm sure many will recognise on here if they followed the academy a few years back. I played against him a few times and also know guys who played alongside him and all I can say is, had he not have got two cruciate knee injuries at such a young age which eventually got him released from his contract with us, I have no doubt in my mind he'd be in the first team now. He was an unbelievable talent, I played as LM back in the day and actually had to play LB one of the days we played Norseman (his Sunday League team at the time) and he terrorised me and the rest of the defence. Without sounding too big headed, I was a decent player too, was actually scouted by Palace, Portsmouth and Fulham (though nothing materialised :() and he was head and shoulders above me and any other player on the park by a country mile.
During his time at Spurs, at just 16, he was called up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad - I just found the article on him - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4765481.stm

Such a shame, I don't even know where he is now, he went West Ham after his release but they too got rid of him (not sure what reasons) and since then he vanished really. Amazing how an injury so early on can ruin what could have been an outstanding player. Makes you wonder just how many others have had the same sh*t luck.

Yep, that Stoke defeat really got to me, but I'm feeling better today. I actually left the house and did a bit of shopping :)

SoS, Dixon's currently playing for Bradford City, though he's yet to appear I believe. He was loaned to Halifax a few months ago, but was recalled due to injury to another Bradford striker. (All from my cousin - season ticket holder at Valley Parade).

<laugh>...c'mon fella its only one game, look at it this way, every side gets a crap game full of refereeing disasters once a season, I'd rather it were against Stoke than one of the teams around us, and get robbed v Chelsea say! <yikes>, thats more important at end of the season than one result v a mid-table side. <ok>

:) NSS, yours is the reasonable view without doubt <ok>

But as I keep saying I suddenly saw us as title challengers if we could just win on Sunday, and I was truly blinded by the light of silverware. I got very drunk too, and I always feel bad and depressed after that too, it's such a horrible come down.

Anyway, I'm smiling now, healthy and sober and looking forward to Thursday and Sunday <ok>

  15. Stoke will undo a lot of teams. Even Chelsea and United could only manage a draw against them, this season, whereas the likes of Bolton thumped them 5-0!

    That's football, folks.
