Match Day Thread Bromley vs Ipswich Town

Less than four hours to go and we still don't have a matchday thread for the eagerly anticipated Milk/Coca Cola/Worthington's/Carling/Carabao Cup First Round?

This is very likely to be a second-string Ipswich side playing against Bromley, for the first time in our history. With four points out of six and no goals conceded in their two league games so far, League 2 Bromley have a little bit of form and morale going into this one. However, their manager apparently confirmed today they won't be full strength either. Hopefully we'll see the likes of Walton, Woolfenden, Kipre, Humphrey, Barbrook, Chaplin, Hutchinson, Broadhead, Al-Hamadi, and Akpom given some minutes.

Our record in the League Cup over the last several years has been ... underwhelming to say the least. Not a competition we've ever really taken that seriously, with the right decision to prioritise league form. Surely this will be a straight-forward win in 90 minutes though? Remember, predictions for cup matches don't count towards the table! I'm going for a routine 4-1 win.

 

Struggling to get any enthusiasm for this one but I'll go for a slightly jittery 3-1 Town win.

This performance so far is just reminiscent of late era Paul Cook. Complacent, no discernible game plan, lack of fluidity, and a sense of “we’ve got the better players, so the result will come”.

In a sport that’s best watched when the team is writing in joined up handwriting, we’re writing in scrawled block capitals. Hopefully it’s early season rust and our habitual tendency to exit cups early - but so far, this is not boding well at all for our season. A penny for Ashley Young’s thoughts at half time. He’s playing well, but the attacking players are far too dithering and wasteful.

We’ve got to step it up a few gears for the second half.

Much better second half, in terms of upping the tempo. Szmodics and Hirst coming on should hopefully up the firepower and ensure we get through to the next round in 90 minutes.
