At this stage of the window I'd be leaning more towards Welbeck than others ... ... would be settled in after five minutes, in the dressing room, and no issues with playing meaningless internationals. If we can get him on a few language courses, all the better.
I've just been listening to an interview with Fabian Hurzeler from yesterday and based on that if they are letting Welbeck go then he doesn't know about it and it will be against his will - he was waxing lyrical about him, his contribution and his importance to the squad last season and this coming season. Willingly brought him up several times to say how great he is, 'ageing like a fine wine' apparently. Was the free BBC Sounds Football Daily podcast if anyone is interested or wants to listen for themselves rather than rely on my paraphrasing..
Good appointment that. Need to be trying to squeeze everything out of the squad to get results and a set piece coach is a great way to do that, can nick you points when you play poorly. Charlton were excellent from set pieces last season and they scored their late winner on Saturday from one with quite a clever routine. Ball to the back post which drags defenders to the ball, header down to the open man in the 6 yard box.
It would be nice to see a whole Muriel of the Til the Enders on some building in the city and certainly in or outside of the Stadium.. Everyone of us should be proud as owt for what these lads achieved. (yes I know)
And, no offence, would make the squad a little more British ... ... plus he 'd be a great coach for Mayenda.
Looking at the upcoming fixtures, across the leagues, I'd guess RLB's shoulders went down when he realised it's not Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday every week. I genuinely think the Championship fixture overload puts off foreign coaches. In France RLB would've had time to walk his dog ... ... and allow it to bite other dogs
Loved welbeck on loan and like him as a bloke but signing him doesn't excite me in the slightest. He's not even a one in four striker and while I understand much of his career has been off the bench, it's just not a record that gets me going. He's also 35 in a couple of months. Not against it. Understand the merit of it. But it doesn't excite me at all.
Our goals won't come from strikers this season. To stay up we'll need to get goals from set pieces and midfield. Someone like Welbeck would stretch defences to allow the likes of ELF and Xhaka to get into the box.
