No wonder they usually try to avoid being interviewed. Time and again the left show themselves to be ignorant racist bigots.
Some "Data" No small boat arrivals are recorded prior to 2018 when the UK was a part of a returns arrangement with the EU whereby anyone making the crossing could be returned. But the Government's Brexit deal did not include any agreement on a new returns arrangement and so returning migrants became far more difficult - and small boat crossings grew quickly. https://www.durham.ac.uk/department...-crossings-launched-by-professor-thom-brooks/
So strange that leave voters complain about these people on boats, they knew what they were voting for so should have known they were coming
Weak contrarianism yet again from you. There have been many campaigns raising awareness of the issues, and Labours part in blocking inquiries. The people involved have spoken out at many, many rallies, and I'm sure they will continue to do so.
Tony Smith is the former director general of Border Force. He served for 40 years, retiring in 2013. He said he was never aware of any arrivals by boat during his time in the service and says at that time he was advised that it wasn't a threat. "The problem was people penetrating via ferries and lorries and I think the reason people shifted to the boats was because we'd done quite well in stopping them coming in by other routes," he said. "I was advised during my time as gold commander for the London 2012 Olympics and as head of Border Force that this was not a threat. "The currents were too difficult, these were busy shipping lanes, nobody would be able to make it across, so I was very surprised when I saw that boats started arriving, particularly small boats and dinghies. "As soon as the migrants and smugglers realised this was a viable route, they were getting ashore, they weren't being sent back and more started to come." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy0w9zw57glo
The previous migrant deals were directly with France. The argument was that cutting the draw of getting to the UK reduced the numbers entering France in the first place. They were not linked to the EU. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/joint-ukfrench-ministerial-declaration-on-calais
"could be returned" "could" being the operative word. The French had no intention of receiving the migrants. Brexit or no, once the migrants were/are in our waters, they were/are here to stay. Labour say they are removing thousands, which, if true, is encouraging. You seem to think the French would have played ball if we remained in the EU. Fact is, our spineless government at the time would have folded. The migrants were heading over regardless of Brexit. The boat crossings were inevitable.
