Yup. If we paid 3m quid, sell him for 7m Euros (approx 6m quid), with a 50% sell-on clause (50% of profit) then we get 1.5m quid.

Of course people have knocked Elder, usually when he's brought up in a discussion about players we shouldn't have released. People don't just randomly bring him up when we're talking about needing a new left back to disparagingly put him down do they?

We don't have conversations on here along the lines of "Giles needs replacing with a new left back" "Yeah but he's not as **** as Elder <laugh>" do we?

Like, in the scheme of things it doesn't matter, and like I said to Newcastle, it was clearly a joke just seemed a pretty poor joke. If a player pulls on a City shirt, gives his all, and leaves unacrimoniously, I'm rarely going to have a bad word to say about them. Others can live their lives in other ways.

When Willliams signs, I hope he isn't as **** as Elder was, he's only had a couple of cameo appearances in friendlies after not playing for over a year.

I’m hoping that he’s got something of a point to prove and that his year in the wilderness has made him mature somewhat.

Allsop is taboo because he's Rosenior's boy, and certain people believe no one who Liam ever loved can be flawed in any way.

What a strange comment - although I assume this is just a joke too to be shrugged off.

I must say, I wonder if the same people obsessing over Selles' first result for Sheff Utd would be as obsessed if he'd won 4-1 rather than lost 4-1.

Do you not consider that it’s just ****ing hilarious he’s gone to a rival of ours and lost 4-1 in his opening game. I hope he fails to win a game at the Blunts.

Was asked what I thought of Selles by two Sheffield Utd fans in the pub. Said "he's OK but I would rather have Wilder, as Selles didn't really impress me". They reckoned they would rather have Wilder also.

same conversation with about 5 utd fans last night at footy, my view was he did well for us in points per game where we'd started in a laughably **** position, but last 7 felt like we only played for a draw, that said it's only been one game and they were up against a top 6 team who played a perfect away game, just sat so so deep and hit em on the break, can't blame manager for players making **** passes or missing good chances, basically time will tell but don't write him off just yet

Sacking Wilder was more unhinged than us sacking Rosenior.

They finished 14 points above Sunderland and outplayed them for the majority of the Play Off final. Yes of course there must have been immense disappointment at not being promoted but over the course of the season they were clearly one of the top 3 teams. Sacking the manager who achieved that was dubious, replacing him with a inexperienced guy who had clearly just buckled under pressure was reckless.

Sheffield United’s reasoning is that they want to use AI to build their squad, and Wilder wasn’t up for that.

Which is terrible reasoning in every possible way. I’m not upset by that, just amazed.

Wilder and Rosenior have very similar features though in terms of the sacking. Both incredibly well liked because of their connections to the club, added in the fact they had success (obviously Wilder was much more than Rosie) but that then led to subconscious resentment for a lot of the fan base which I fully understand to the next person. For us that was made a lot easier by Walter and Selles will likely see the same outcome if he can’t get positive results. Selles is a likeable guy but won’t ever reach the heights of Wilder but that’s out of his control and down to the new ownership for sacking wilder off the back of a record 3rd place (fact check me if wrong)

Selles is the best manager since sliced bread as shown by the FACT that after we sacked him he go a job at a team obviously better than us as shown by the FACT that they finished higher in the league last season.
    Or something like that.

It's the opening game - fans (including our own) tend to over react after the opening game of every season. I seem to remember us winning 4 -1 at Preston on the opening day under McCann. A great day and a great result - didn't mean we were promotion material, though. If the Blunts win their next 3 league games, day 1 will soon be forgotten about.
That's not to say Bristol C are not a good side and they are in a different place to where we were when we won at Preston. Will they be in the play-offs? Probably - or they won't be far off - but I doubt they'll be getting carried away with 1 result.

Absolutely. My point was more Selles’ failure will receive heavier scrutiny because as far as Blades fans are concerned he shouldn’t have the job.

    Good shout mate.

Remember City getting turned over 4-0 in a pre season games once at Crewe and the fallout was incredible. Pretty sure the same season we got promoted to the Premier League. Point is some clubs seem to have knee jerk types who start talking about promotion after one decent opening display or completely lose it and forecast all kinds of sh!t before the transfer window has even shut should they get turned over early doors.

    Patience really is a virtue.

Their record in play offs is a shocker zero from 10 .
Like you say they played Sunderland off the park it seems like a Wembley curse .
