Immigration is costing untold billions each year - billions that could be spent elsewhere. Even the boat people cost billions, and that's a drop in the ocean compared to total immigration.

Public services are groaning under the weight, whether it be hospitals, prisons or housing. There are simply too many people in this country. Maybe there should be more spent on services, but if these numbers continue to arrive, the cycle will never end. When do you say enough is enough?

The richest are leaving in droves and taking their wealth and expertise with them, to be replaced by folk who do not even have two buttons to rub together but just take instead. We have a massive black hole in our economy, which sucks in money never to be seen again.

The taxpayer of this country is being mugged off perpetually. The country has degraded rapidly over the last decade. And yet some believe it is all fine and dandy. It beggars belief.

What has leaving Europe got to do with non-EU migrants such as Afghans and Pakistanis?

The simple truth: we are toothless and rarely say no to anyone (although Labour say they have returned thousands). The Tories are squarely to blame.

Labour may not be helping matters, but my word they inherited a disaster.

Because Afghans and Pakistanis could have been returned to France prior to Brexit if they arrived by boat.

The Tories and others are to blame but Labour could fix this and they won't because..Brexit.

Simply taxing the **** out of the productive & giving the money to 3rd World spongers in the hope they vote Labour is very Socialist.

When the £50 BILLION black hole gets bigger it's the regular already squeezed poorest that suffers .

Archers will still be blaming Maggie Thatcher as the country collapses of course

Barely anyone was being returned under the Tories' watch, even before Brexit. Besides, I shouldn't imagine the French were too keen to take them back, meaning our government would have just wilted.

Check how many people were arriving by boat before Brexit. It wasn't an issue. How many times do I have to repeat myself?

Are you telling me the French would have happily taken back the migrants had we remained in the EU?

    You jest, surely.

The migrants were coming, regardless of Brexit, and once here they were/are going to stay.

Tony Smith is the former director general of Border Force. He served for 40 years, retiring in 2013.
He said he was never aware of any arrivals by boat during his time in the service and says at that time he was advised that it wasn't a threat.
"The problem was people penetrating via ferries and lorries and I think the reason people shifted to the boats was because we'd done quite well in stopping them coming in by other routes," he said.
"I was advised during my time as gold commander for the London 2012 Olympics and as head of Border Force that this was not a threat.
"The currents were too difficult, these were busy shipping lanes, nobody would be able to make it across, so I was very surprised when I saw that boats started arriving, particularly small boats and dinghies.
"As soon as the migrants and smugglers realised this was a viable route, they were getting ashore, they weren't being sent back and more started to come."

It's been posted several times, Dublin returns, more to UK than from UK. either way numbers small. How many times do you need it repeated before it sinks in?

The previous migrant deals were directly with France. The argument was that cutting the draw of getting to the UK reduced the numbers entering France in the first place.

They were not linked to the EU.
