Palace fans were a disgrace yesterday, reacting to the Liverpool fans disrespecting the national anthem has been given as the reason.

    Realistically both is poor behaviour.

You can't go round acting like you are God's gift booing anthems of uefa or the UK "cos" then expect others to honour basic manners.

There's reasons for grievances with uefa but zero reason to have no manners.

Even more for the countries anthem.

You are basically insulting others to their faces then asking them to respect something so when they act bad after you acted bad the its really just two wrongs dont make a right territory.

Yeh I thought that was the reason anyways.

Can't really complain tbh we disrespect the anthem so some disrespect our silence.

Liverpool fans disrespecting the national anthem is piss poor imo but certainly not an excuse for the Palace (or any other club) fans either

Showing respect and remaining silent costs absolutely nothing. Just shut up for minute ffs

Edit; from what I've read, fans weren't just late getting to their seats rather than being disrespectful

I find it worrying that you think booing an anthem equates in any way to booing a minutes silence, given what the minutes silence was for in this instance. One is a political statement (whether it's agreed with it or not doesn't matter) the other is a vile and disrespectful disregard for human decency. There's no comparison. If you think there is then you've got a problem.

I agree the 2 aren't really comparable, but herd mentality was always going to **** that silence up after the anthem.

Also, it isn't exactly respectful to the poor ****er singing it - likely a major milestone and honour for their career ruined.

I dislike booing regardless of what it's in response to. I'd rather the anthem be met with silence by those who don't go along with it. The point of my post was to object to a false equivalence being drawn.

I think expecting everyone in Wembley to be perfect after you yourself do something thst might well offend them is unrealistic

    That's my point.

It's hard enough to get some to be good, hence minutes applause as a thing.

If you go boo the national anthem in London v a London club on a Sunday and drink will be involved and you ought to expect a reaction.

As I said two wrongs never make a right..

That's the point. Im not equating them.

Disrupting a silence dedicated to a tragedy is a ****ty thing to do regardless of circumstances, imo - but I've never understood the booing of the anthem either.

A minutes silence is an opportunity to show that you're a decent human being who understands the devastation of loss of life. You keep quiet and don't make it about yourself. Some people will always show that they aren't those things and will want to make it about themselves.

If the support of others in the event of the tragic death of two lovely young men is dependent on us thinking, saying and doing things those others approve of, then their support isn't really support at all.

It's about being human and showing respect. If you can't do that without conditions, it's not support it's a performance. Genuine support for loss and grief doesn't come with conditions. You can talk about herd mentality or 'expecting a reaction' as much as you like, to me that's just scapegoating. And to be clear, I really, really don't like the booing of the anthem. I don't like it but I do understand why some do it, I just sincerely wish they wouldn't. As I said, it's a political statement. If you feel 'insulted' by that (not you personally) then you've got a serious problem.

It was particularly sad to see and hear because it wasn't about Liverpool football club or its fans. There was no retaliation to be had there. It was about paying respect to two young men no longer with us. I wonder how the family is feeling after that should they have tuned in to watch the mass tribute to their loved ones.

As for you not equating the two, you clearly did.

I'm leaving it there because the conversation has already dishonoured the sentiment of the thread.

That's very true. I know someone who was at the game in the Palace end who can confirm that.
