Depends, the whole MGW saga shows that there are times where they aren’t made public. Not saying he does, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Seems equally unlikely that nobody has made an enquiry for him this summer and we’ve said a price way higher than £30m and West Ham think that we’ve changed our valuation that much
Depend how highly we rated him and how desperate we were to sign him. Signing him for £15m and having a relegation release clause of around £30m probably didn’t seem that mental last summer. Similar to Ipswich putting in Delaps one and they paid more him than we did Fernandes
Does seem weird they’d bid so low for no reason. It’s not FM where a bid unsettles the player or whatever. Fernandes will be well aware of who is interested in him and what Saints value him at. Whole thing doesn’t make sense so think there’s something behind the scenes we don’t know about
It's just them trying to negotiate. They are starting low with the hope that after negotiation they won't have to pay a stupidly high fee. I don't think there is anything else to it or we would have heard by now.
For me, it's clearly an attempt by West Ham to unsetttle the player. Steinberg, who reported the £30mill price tag, has good connections with West Ham so he's been fed something by the club IMO.
100% - let's not forget it's also West Ham and David Sullivan does weird stuff in the transfer market and the media to appease fans etc. The line about him being Potter's #1 target is interesting, given that Potter supposedly didn't want Callum Wilson but Sullivan pushed it through. Maybe there's briefing and counter-briefing from within the West Ham end itself
Yeah, apparently there were a dozen clubs after him not long ago, surely one of them would've met any release clause.
They don’t need to do that though. Just speak to his agent and say they want him and Fernandes can kick off. Maybe it’s a more public way of most people going “fair enough” if he does refuse to play having it public knowledge they have bid
Just going to say that Matty Fernandes looked very happy on Saturday. He doesn’t look to be agitating for a move and, unlike Tyler, WS doesn’t seem to think he needs some “headspace”.
