... but the other 4 killed aren't even if the one was ... and as the Press Assocuation has stated, Israel has a history of killing journalists without providing evidence of 'connections'...

Looks like they are tightening the grip on preventing the outside world being able to witness what they are actually doing in Gaza ..

Anyway, Australia has now committed to joining France, the UK and Canada in formal recognition of a Palestinian state next month ... possibly prompted by this incident, but likely being contemplated anyway...

The onus is on Israel now to provide evidence that this journalist was indeed an Hamas operative. I’ve kind of already made that point. If he wasn’t then it’s a war crime, if he was then it’s fair game.

As for recognising a Palestinian state, it means absolutely nothing. If anything, it’ll just piss off Benny and he’ll do more damage because of it. He’s already shown that by now occupying the whole of Gaza.

Well done leaders of the free world <doh>

Not sure the onus is really on Israel to do anything if it doesn’t fancy it. Says who? The same organisations who have proven themselves to be at best powerless and at worst in cahoots with Hamas for two years? Doesn’t seem much point in worrying about it.

Disagree - the recognition accelerates discussions on a two state solution - Benny ain't master of the world - and I'd expect many countries to follow the German action on ceasing arms supplies to Israel sooner rather than later...

The recognition will also start to address this constant and continuing flagrant disregard for International Law and the Geneva convention ...

That means absolutely nothing. So again, who is going to go into Israel and arrest Benny? Absolutely nobody. It’s all virtue signalling but in reality utterly pointless.

Israel and the US call the shots here, not the UK, Canada and Australia. Unless Israel and the US recognise a Palestinian state then there is no Palestinian state.

Me. If they’ve got the proof, I really don’t see the harm in giving it a quick flash to the world.

Israel doesn't call the shots - it has acted with impunity because of its backing from the US and, indeed, the West ..until now ...

Trump won't ignore the changing tides forever and the growing discontent in Israel itself with Benny is also building pressure...

All about opinions of course - but one thing is for sure - the growing dissatisfaction from the rest of the World with Israel's actions has nowt to do with anti-semitism but everything to do with humanitarianism ...

You’ve been excited a few times before about the US not putting up with Israel forever. They will. They’ll always back them up regardless.

If Israel don’t call the shots with what’s happening there, then who does? They’ve quickly shown they don’t listen or give a **** about what our leaders have to say.

We are just going around in circles now.

I think this Hamas journalist and his colleagues with him ought to know by now what happens if you play silly games.

Hopefully the message is a bit clearer now. **** around find out.

Israel's evidence that Al Jazeera journalist was part of Hamas is not convincing

please log in to view this image

    Jeremy Bowen
    International Editor

The Israeli military is saying that it targeted Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif in a strike because he was a "terrorist". In a statement, it alleges the existence of documents which "unequivocally prove" this affiliation.

Yet this claim goes against al-Sharif's long record as a journalist.

al-Sharif, who was Palestinian, was part of a team already working for Al Jazeera in Gaza before 7 October, before Israel closed the gates of Gaza to people like myself.

Israel alleges that al-Sharif was a terrorist, and the IDF produced a graphic claiming to show Hamas activity. I have seen it and it is not convincing.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, 186 journalists have been killed since the start of Israel's military offensive in Gaza.

This is something deeply concerning to all of those journalists who have been doing heroic work in Gaza.

They've been targeted before, but the killing of these five journalists is absolutely Israel doubling down on its allegations as well - which Al Jazeera have refuted, dismissed and denounced.

Watchdog condemns Israel's attacks on journalists

The killing of Anas al-Sharif, fellow Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa has drawn wide condemnation.

After Israel's attack, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said: "Israel’s pattern of labelling journalists as militants without providing credible evidence raises serious questions about its intent and respect for press freedom."

The CPJ added that journalists are civilians and "must never be targeted", calling for those responsible to be "held accountable".

Before Al-Sharif was killed by Israel, the CPJ and the UN had condemned threats against him.

A UN expert on press freedom said there is "growing evidence" journalists in Gaza have been "targeted and killed by the Israeli army on the basis of unsubstantiated claims that they were Hamas terrorists".

"On the one hand, Israel refuses to allow any international journalists to enter Gaza, and on the other, it ruthlessly smears, threatens, obstructs, targets and kills the few local journalists remaining as the only eyes of the outside world on the ongoing genocide," UN special rapporteur on freedom of expression Irene Khan said.

Al-Jazeera have been condemned by 20 countries this century for their bias, lies and links to terrorist networks.

They can’t be trusted just as much as Israel.

Is Trumps theme park in Gaza still going ahead? They seem to have cleared a lot of ground.

I’d rather see nice restaurants and big shopping malls. Not a fan of theme parks and big scary rides.

When I was 17 and taking ecstasy, I slept with a 20 year old who wore pads but let’s call them what they’re, nappies, because she was incontinent.
