The manager should at the least be able to give a list of players he wants. If the club then work out who they want then fair enough but to not let the manager have a major say in it all seems bizarre to me and afaik no top club operates like that.

If the coach gives a list of who he wants that he's come up with in the few minutes he has spare from his full time job then how is that going to be more successfull than the list produced by the recruitment department which is their full time job? I personally think that way of thinking is one of the most bizarre things about football. In any other job the HR department would die laughing if a manager submitted a list of possible external recruits.

i dont know about you but when we interview to hire, they speak to the people who have the knowledge to see if they are suitable and understand the subject matter. You don't get the HR people to recruit and the recruiters send the most "suitable" candidates, most of whom will probably be rejected except for the ones who stand out. The one who chooses, the manager and the people who understand the role. In this case i would think the person in that position in the manager.

Sometimes the managers even go out to headhunt

That's all good but I am a big fan of dividing jobs up into manageable chunks that humans can actually do. I've been careful to use the word coach in my own posts because that is what I think we should have rather than a manager. It seems simple to me...someone provides resources and someone else coaches them into improving performance. The skill sets are entirely different. A better analogy than recruitment, given that one big difference in football is that you are paying a big capital sum up front for new players, might be the engineering department buying equipment for a factory while the production manager is going to manage it's effective use.

The club announcement on hiring Frank confirms he is the Head Coach. I think that is a deliberate and important difference from being the 'manager': the latter implies much more wide ranging responsibilities. Given his job title at Brentford was manager it's not surprising the role is different but a little worrying that he didn't seem to expect that.

    Correct.
When Fergie was at OT he used to identify areas of the team he wanted to upgrade, then he would produce a list with 3 or 4 players in each position and say to Gill get me one off the list in each position.

Anyone even care that Romano says we've opened talks with the Mansourites for Savinho?

Fits the LW/AM hybrid role of Simons/Eze from earlier in the window

Wow really hope we can pull this deal off. Savinho is a very exciting player.

Potentially Kudus and Savinho on the wings it will be very entertaining for sure.

He's the type whose youtube highlights reel will make him look like prime Messi, but then you peer under the bonnet and realise he's more like prime Ruel Fox.

1 league goal last season whilst playing for Man City. That is awful. To me he’s not much better than Werner, that’s how little I rate him.

This is exactly the kind of ****e idea Levy has that he thinks the fans will get all excited about.

    Like the Richarlison signing.

Grealish is right there. If Spurs are talking to City then get Jack on loan for the season instead of wasting what will probably be around £40million on Savinho.

    You have to be joking?
The man is a nothing and fools people by jiggling about a lot before losing/wasting the ball.

Definitely more tactically flexible than Werner, as he can play both flanks or AM

Decent return for assists, with 8 in 29 appearances last season - though have to wonder if his Girona form, where he scored 9 and assisted 10 coming in off the left, plays into the decision

Him and Kudus on the flanks could bring some delightful chaos

How often did he play in the middle for City? I don’t remember him doing that.

Spurs need creativity but I don’t think he’s the right guy for that. Like I said several times already, go get Grealish on loan and then buy someone else too.

    Savinho doesn’t improve Spurs imo.

Nope, I’d love to see Spurs get Grealish. He’s not a robot and doesn’t rely on pace or strength. He’s got flair and could provide creativity. I’d much rather Spurs get him than Savinho who is too similar to what’s already there imo.
