Exactly. He's doing exactly what he's being paid to do, similar to 90% of people in the country. I personally think Townsend's a good pundit.
He's calling games fairly without the expected biased opinion that I though he would bring. He's also talking a lot of sense tactically. I expected to maybe annoy some people with this thread but don't want to fall out with anyone so will leave it at that.
lol i'm not looking to draw battle lines mate! Just not convinced he is worthy of praise. I mean talking tactics is something that Keown is very good at but he never gets a mention!
Think he's a brilliant pundit, I put him up there with Alan Hansen and Lee Dixon in terms of analysis. Much better than Andy Gray or Jamie Redknapp.
Have only seen him a couple of times to be honest(living in Australia has that effect) but what I have seen he is very good so far. I agree tactically as astute as Lee Dixon and seems quite impartial at the moment. The real test for him however is the extent that he can be honest about United, although I saw him analysing the Utd vs Crystal Palace game and he was spot on! One more thing is that he will need to evolve and constantly adapt to be great; I remember how much Hansen was lauded when he first started but he never evolved he just stagnated and even though I rarely see him nowadays when I do it could easily be 1998 he just says the same things as he did back then!!!!
guys, if you don't accept people have a right to support and love a different team and so love to be your rivals but are still human beings then thats your choice. for me Garry neville has always bought into a inter city rivalry in a big way. Thats his right and converesly when he is at that theres a right to push the same stuff back at him. However..... He is doing a VERY good job on sky, his punditry is more modern and balanced than andy gray ever was, its more relevant, points are better made and the guy is doing well. No better than townsend? nah mate thats not right IMO. Redknapp is a bloody awful spoofer... on bbc is hanson or lawro or shearer really that good? Neville says things is a plain "working class" way almost, I can relate to him... i could never relate to gray cos it was like listening to an angry old geezer hammering on about how good it was in the day.

to me i can relate more to a comment like the platstation one than a rather obvious redknapp spoofism or an andy gray premeditated rant. he's good. thats my opinion.
He is doing an excellent job. Such a refreshing change to all the biased ex Liverpool playing pundits who seem to think they are still a top 4 team. Lawro, Thomson and Hansen can all **** off.
When have they said LFC are top 4? You are "biased" anti LFC as much as you accuse them of being pro LFC
