Hot weather's back - looking like a heatwave well into next week ... bringing the runner beans along a treat
The slugs always eat my runner beans. The only things I can grow are potatoes, carrots, and onions, as everything above ground gets munched I haven't even got my veg patch going for the past couple of years though, been too busy with other things. But I'll get back to it next year
I’m growing onions this year, mate. When do you plant and harvest yours. They’re looking good and I’ve read I just need to wait until the plants start withering and that’s my indicator that they’re done. Been in about 10-11 weeks and I don’t think they’re far off.
I think that's Pompey way. Went there once when the kids were little, I think they've got a Pontins or something down there.
Depends on how you’re starting them off. Are you growing them from seed or using onion sets ? I tend to get the sets from garden centres and start them off that way which means planing around beginning of April. And yep they are ready to harvest when the tops go yellow and start to topple over. From memory I think I used to pull mine about 12-14 weeks later, but I’d go with when the tops dry out and go yellow. Tbh I’m no Alan Titchmarsh and I just tend to lob things in and hope for the best. I use sprouted carrot tops to start off my carrots and chit potatoes. I can dig out potatoes for months after I’ve planted them as they are almost like a weed and grow with very little maintenance
Busy af at the moment. Full swing into the silly season and I’m booked into loads of events. Did a decent one today and got another early start for a new one tomorrow. Managed to grab some salt water time tonight for a quick refresh, blow out the cobwebs and go again tomorrow
