Understand the concerns re: Oli getting booked regularly but for me that's a price worth paying. Missing the odd game through suspension is more than offset by the fear he'll put into defenders - could just buy him the extra yard or a bit more time he needs to create an opportunity for someone else or score himself. It's his nature and he won't change now, despite being more experienced.
Can you believe we still have Millar, Belloumi, and Matazo to return…add in Zambrano, this is going to be some team
To me, if you can get some points out of the first five games or so, it is confidence building. You feel that you are in the peleton and not tailed off.
Looked at this fixture as a potential baptism of fire as they'll be up there this season. Encouraging start. Certainly looks like we're going to be hard to beat.
coventry are notorious bad starters to the season the commentator said. and its cost them in previous seasons.
Thought that was a hard earned point and an encouraging performance. I thought Kamara played well against a tough opposite number to say he's had some stick on here. There were times where we didn't really get going and were wasteful but there were moments where you could see we could score goals and without 4 hours of build up too. Giles transforms us as an attacking outlet. Drameh played really well, as did the centre backs. To be fair I thought everyone played well, though Slater frustrated me. I agree that he gets into good positions, but if he can't start taking decent efforts in those situations then he'll need replacing with someone that will/can. Happy to give him a little more time though - clean slates for the new season and all that. He was also guilty of shirking responsibility a few times on the defensive side and seems to react to loose balls later than the opposition. I think SJ has transformed some players already, but right now Slater still seems to have the same limits. He'll pop up in good attacking situations and he'll run forwards with the ball. Passing wavelength is off, reading of the game isn't quite there, finishing has fallen off a cliff etc. I want him to push on with us and ideally not just be a stop gap until someone comes back in. It's his shirt to lose to a degree so he needs to take the chance. I thought Crooks and Lundstram were immense. Joseph hard to judge. I'm not sure what people wanted from him today. It wasn't the game for a young striker to be expected to flourish as we were often far too disjointed and the long balls were too often miles off target.
Thanks for that, nice to hear his thoughts, like his honesty, and not for the first time a manager mentions we need to be braver on the ball, also good that he supports McBurnie getting stuck in, 'we need to protect our own' mentality. Can't help but be impressed by the bloke, got to be honest, think we may have got a star here.
The sight of the scoreboard there has reminded me of that maudlin The Enemy trash they insist on playing before kick off. Absolute atmosphere crusher.
I got in after a long drive listening to the game on the radio, for me it’s a brilliant point considering that could be our reserve forward line just over a month from now. Hopefully a lot more competition by then anyway. Overall great start to the season.
