No, you asked when I started watching top flight football. The club I support wasn’t in the top flight then or even now. I did go to Charlton with my grandfather.
Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea Manchester City Manchester United Villa Brighton Newcastle United Forest Fulham Bournemouth Everton Spurs Crystal Palace West Ham Brentford Sunderland Wolves Leeds Burnley
Some top games you saw there. See that's the sort of **** I'm interested in, not some poxy team from Leicester. 71 if memory serves me correctly was Arsenal's double winning season. And remember Liverpools European ventures, I'm sure they won in 77...I expect I watched that on the tv, as use to love the European nights. Grey matter setting in for me. Actually football was great back then. Bloody good for a 12 year old.
I've stopped using excel now, robbing bastards, use google docs and spreadsheet now because it's free. I had a year come with my new laptop, but that expired a few months back I think, and they want extra pounds to include my excel sheets, so I've just ****ed them off. Actually getting on well with the google versions. I only need them for basic stuff these days, so microsoft is no loss.
Because of my age. I wouldn’t have understood the importance of any of those games. I was extremely fortunate that my mates dad was an avid Chelsea fan and was prepared to drag me along with my mate, my cousin stayed at my parents so he could go to the cup final and somehow my step dad and me got to go with him and I really don’t know much about the Liverpool tickets other than what I said. TBH, it’s not something that I boast about but Fosse was trying a “gotcha”.
Nope ... was just putting you straight as to when I thought football was invented... First season 69/70 we finished 3rd in the old second division behind Huddersfield and Blackpool .... promoted the next season ... Jimmy Bloomfield then bought the Huddersfield centre forward ... one Frank Worthington ... who was my favourite player during the Bloomfied years ... If you know your history...
I was a bit of a football nut in 70's, so took an interest in everything, I was like I'm am now always wanting the English teams to do well in Europe and Liverpool were awesome back then. I think Arsenal beat Liverpool in the 71 Final, which Arsenal were only the third team after PNE and Spurs to do the double at that time. My bro became an Arsenal fan on the back of it, which I can't forgive him for lol. He actually had trials with Arsenal as a lad, but from memory I think the wages back then were **** and he never really saw any future in it, which was probably true compared to today and even today, they sign up so many kids, you rarely get anywhere, unless you are something special. I think the previous year 1970 was when Chelsea won the FA Cup after beating Leeds in which I think was the first ever replay. I still remember some **** lol. Edit: Arsenal were the 4th team to do the double, I forgot about Aston Villa.
err the 77 European Cup final was in Rome Wembley staged the 78 one when we beat Bruges with a Dalglish goal . Wasn't at the && euro final but was at the FA Cup final that year which was the only thing we didn't win
Why do people remember the Charity Shield I could never give a toss about that. Although only noticed after coming home from my game today that the Charity Shield is tomorrow.
It was on a famous Saturday, in the month of May, I saw a bunch of scousers walking up the Wembley Way, They said; we're gonna win the treble, we're gonna win the cup, It was on that famous Saturday United ****ed it up. (this also applies to 1985, which i was actually at)
There you go then, it was ‘78. Didn’t really care too much about who was playing, I was excited to be going to Wembley
