To be honest drinking and training aren’t really good bedmates. Easy for me to say now as I hardly drink. Go back 35 years when I was young, daft and in the army, where I used to drink myself stupid most weekends and on some weekdays and still be able to get up and do whatever training they threw at me, it was a different story! I guess what I’m saying is that drinking either to excess or consistently the older we get won’t do anything for our bodies. I can’t think of anything worse now than having a few drinks and not being able to put in a planned training session the next day.

Oh yeah, no doubt about it, you're right. That said, I'll always have a some beers on a weekend with mates if I am able too.

It's all about a good balance....which can be different for everyone. To me,there seems little point in trying to keep the body in perfect nick at the exclusion of other things we might enjoy. A beer with the lads on a weekend can be really good for the mental health, as long as it's not overdone to excess, and can support the personal well-being encouraged by taking the right physical exercise, similarly not excessive, during the week.

I agree. It’s knowing where it is I suppose. And I’m not judging anyone here btw. I enjoy the odd beer or two but if it impacts on my training then the beer loses every time now. And if my family life impacts on the training, then the training always loses.
I also think that the older I’ve got the less I want to drink. Funnily enough it kind of coincided with when I got married… :emoticon-0148-yes:<smooch>
Once a year; this year it’s November 15, we go to the jobs social club race day where beer and wine and lots of food are there to enjoy for free. So me and Mrs K have a few bevvies. But we know that it’s once a year so see it as a bit of a reward.

We’ve got tickets for the first day. We’ll be wearing our new blue away tops, probably surrounded by lots of gold ones!!

Getting my swim watch has coincided with swimming with a couple lads I know and doing bursts of swimming (don’t know the correct term) and being advised by @safcyellowbelly to do the same. I’ve also done it on my own as it’s closer to the pool I use, Raich Carter as opposed to Hetton with the lads. However going on a morning has been better for me but I can’t eat much early doors, does anyone recommend a drink or a snack for energy before I go. Just for clarity I hate Red Bull and similar stuff was think more of smoothie stuff in a bottle.

Would a protein shake work for you?

I like PHD diet whey in vanilla. It just tastes creamy and not artificial like the other flavours do. I add a little extra water so it's more like a drink than a thick shake.

I dunno if I’d get energy from it but it would probably be better than nowt, swimming at 7-30 is like the middle of the night to me. :emoticon-0102-bigsm
When I done weight training I used protein shakes after but also on cornflakes on a morning but I think a drink/smoothie type is better now.

I decided a few months ago that I needed to change my diet and fitness, when I couldn't even fit into my work gear, and normal clothes.. I knew that was an issue.

Started the gym in late June, and with (albeit extreme and one I would not recommend) dieting... I've lost 2 stone of weight. Going from 85.6kg to 72.3kg (which was my target I set myself).

I'm not toned or defined in any way, it was more about losing the flab around my belly, which has happened a lot, still a little more to lose around the belly, but I'm happier within myself.

Jesus. Really good going that mate. Have to say,.that is some wild weight loss in that timescale though, like one of the most aggressive I have ever seen, especially given your starting weight. Bet you feel light as a feather now lol.

It's been a struggle, and yes, I have been for tests as well to make sure nothing was askew...but thankfully, it isn't...

I think the first few weeks I was on a liquid diet of such, so maybe that helped I don't know.

Oh right, yeah, that would contribute to it like. Just a massive calorie deficit. Probably best to look at your intake a bit now and make sure it's stacked with nutrient dense foods to make sure what you're doing is sustainable and you're not suffering any muscle atrophy.

Unfortunately for me Saturday and Sundays liquid diet has deemed swimming impossible for me today.
