That’s fine - we don’t need him - we have loads of goalscoring replacements lined up…….. ….. we do, don’t we?
Only at Bristol City would we let an old pro like Wells go and run the contract of our leading (albeit flawed and inconsistent) goal scorer down, without signing a replacement. It beggars belief.
Promotion, play-offs, relegation: Championship season predicted by Bristol City's league rivals All 24 Championship clubs get their league season underway this weekend, with Bristol City facing Sheffield United at Bramall Lane https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...on-play-offs-relegation-championship-10405384
Nobody fancies us for promotion, making the Playoffs or getting relegated. And I think they're probably right !
The ‘most boring club in the football league’ is what we have been described as. I think it was by a Norwich blogger. I can see why…..
When I look back over many years we have learned how not to succeed in football by general apathy, poor players in abundance and someone sticking a nose in where it isn't needed. What decent manager or player would rush to sign on to that kind of management history when there are greener pastures elsewhere that offer support and backing for whoever is in charge of on-field activities? This summer's transfer activity has been the usual mish-mash of players coming in and yet we still have the poor players from last season who must be moved on to generate the necessary revenue to bring in another decent goal scorer to play alongside whoever plays up top. Wells should have been given at least another year because given the right kind of support he can offer more goals and would give us an impact player on the bench. Unless Gerhard has aces up his sleeve to up the ante from all of our players I suspect a mid-table finish, but I am more than prepared to give our manager and his lads a chance at proving me and the pundits wrong.
I think it was right to get an ageing Wells off the wage budget and the PNE replacement makes football sense to me. As for Mehmeti he's had a good pre season, I really hope he continues in the same vein but worry it's for the fairies.
On balance I think we should have considered a years deal for Nahki, at the very least we should have spoken to him. The way he was dealt with was disgraceful
we don’t know the ins and outs but it was time to move him on-Riss will be a upgrade however we need another quality striker.
I get the wage thing with Wells, but he’s not stupid and I think he would have accepted a pay cut. All the youngsters looked up to him and I think his dressing room presence would have been worth a wage. Same as Weimann. We don’t treat our players well - look at how we got rid of Korey. Learned about his future from social media.
I agree with all you say bcfcred and I often wonder how many decent players have given a thumbs down on a transfer to Bristol City due to the obvious culture within the gates of Ashton Gate? I heard that Eddie Nketiah's dad told him there was no way he should go the Robins or at least something negative came into play and he declined and if I'm correct didn't even show up for the interview. Ouch.
Weimann and Wells both had there days-Weimann gave so much more than Wells-however both were earning big money and it was right to invest in younger players.
I don’t know if you’ve seen him on social media explaining what happened, if not I’d suggest you take a look. Riss is an upgrade but Wells would’ve worked well alongside him. We need someone alongside Riss and Nagki was the perfect candidate. But even if the club took the opposite view there is a way to deal with people, and a certain individual at the club is giving us a bad name. My worry is if it gets around football circles that we behave in that way, it may affect players when they are deciding whether or not to come to us.
His strength was never in question, it was his lack of pace, even as a younger player if he had pace I think he could’ve played in the PL. I’m sure others would disagree, but that’s my opinion.
There have been many midfielders without pace that have been top drawer it is the manager wish's to set up his team [tactically ] who he has midfield. A rough oxford v city shows at OXford LM changed formations to start more than at city! reality? his worst managing period by a long chalk was BRISTOL CITY! I think he realised his cv at Bristol could be a big black mark!!!!!!!!!
