Eales was never the right person for a club looking to be "number 1." If you want to challenge the very best then you need to appoint the very best at the top.
The CEO needs to be a ****. None of this pretend nice guy trying to cosy up to fans in the Stack. Be a ruthless **** from day one.
I thought the CEO was already decided? Such is the black hole of info that is Newcastle we probably still don’t know and it will have been an entire year working with cancer for Eales, that’s a ****ing disgrace.
Agreed but they arent going to announce the CEO until this **** show is over. It can then be positioned as the new guy is coming in to make sure this never happens again. Announcing him now taints him with what is currently going on.
Here is a post by someone from the "Ever more - NUFC" you tube site with regards to the Saudis and their approach to business. Seems like they have form for being half arsed and not completing their projects, Writing from dubai where I own a large contracting company, with lots of experience working with the Saudis, sorry to say they loose interest in so many projects that eventually get put on the back burner. Here is a list, kingdom tower, 15 years still not near completion, Neom delayed, almost stopped. The Line dwindled from hundreds of km to a few hundred meters. Its stadium not started. This week they returned the flag for the winter Olimpics. Yes they were even trying that one, but cancelled. Newcastle is another one of a smaller level. Sorry mate.
Good point of view I've seen is about aggregate players, this is something the B teams (Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth) have done really well and all links back to the Moneyball (good film) model. I think we have to adopt the same thing with Isak - in the simplest terms, Isak had 29 G/A, whereas if we replace with, say, Larson and Wissa we get two players whose combined G/A is 41. We still have Murphy (20), added Elanga (17) and lost Wilson (0) and Longstaff (0). In data terms, almost anyone we buy will have better stats than those we've lost. Even the likes of El Khannouss (5) should add points to the overall squad. Thiaw looks like he could really go somewhere. The doom and gloom could - and likely will - be lifted, even if it's going to have to be later in the window.
Not sure I fully agree with that. According to reliable reports - Bloomberg, Yahoo, etc. - Neom is expected to be 1.5 miles long by 2030. A long way short of the entire 170 mile project, but still pretty impressive. Jeddah (Kingdom) Tower had political, corruption and Covid issues but is expected to be completed by 2028 after restarting in 2023. The Tower is privately funded so nothing to do with PIF. The W/C stadiums aren't due for a decade. Winter Olympics is actually referring to Asian Winter Olympics, and due to soaring Neom costs has had to be passed over. Whilst Newcastle don't matter a huge amount, the PIF have still pumped around £360m into the club by way of single share purchases since paying £305m for the club. They've also had delegates in Belgium, Netherlands and South American teams looking at a football group.
The Saudi's haven't really cooled their interest. We're just in limbo until the new CEO comes in. It'll be after the transfer window so they aren't tainted with the summer failures. They will then point to said failures and say that the recruitment teams needs a complete overhaul. The new Sporting Director - will oversee that. With any luck this ****show will not be repeated.
I'd be inclined to agree that this is likely. Mistakes have been made and there's probably an understanding that it's all been too late to change now, which is why we seem to be in more of a "we just have to buy players" rather than the uber-cautious "they have to be exactly right for this club". As it stands, we need a backup midfielder, two strikers, at least one defender if not two and most urgently resolution/sale of Isak. Honestly, I'd just get Thiaw done, then quickly get El Khannouss done. Both cheap, then move onto the critical positions up front. I'd immediately throw 60m EUR at Stuttgart for Woltemade to try and just get it done, then push on a goal getter to carry us this season and would take Wissa, Watkins though preferably Larson due to his high ceiling. Then it's time to count the pennies and see if we've got 50m EUR for Scalvini. It's not unrealistic, it's achievable and would turn a Summer of mockery into an exceptional window.
