Oki Dan have asked Mrs N as she is a sports masseur, she has heard of sportsmans hernia , but never on the Hip ! Are you sure it isnt calcification on the hip or damage to the hip cartilage? An MRI should reveal more!
Sportsman Hernia is usually in groin area caused by excessive twisting , sometimes not a hernia but ruptured muscle! Should fix itself in 4 weeks or so !
I dont know, i have only got the info she has given me. Which is her hip is hurting and the physio has questioned whether it could be a sportman's hernia. I was just wondering what that was because i had never heard of it and the info i was getting was too complicated for my little brain. I would not rule out anything atm, but i am hoping it is something very simple to fix as Kiri has 4 things in her life she loves, Animals, Friends, Family and her Martial arts. I would hate to see her cut down so close to her blackbelt.
The excessive twisting would certainly fit with the martial arts, as our hips are always twisting and turning. It certainly isnt healing itself, its been like it for over a month apparently she just kept it quiet.
Okay first thing is she has to have a time out , if it is a muscle rupture which sounds likely , carrying on doing MA is only going to worsen it ! She has to rest it and minimize movement as much as possible ! I would suggest an MR scan as that will show up any rupture and see how bad things are ! If she rests it properly she should see a marked improvement over 4 weeks ! If she tries to rush it will only weaken the problem area further! By the way Mrs N says this consultation is free
Thank you for that. I will tell her that, although if i am not around its because my head was ripped off haha. I think that was what the physio was getting at, but like i say Kiri has been a bit shy with the details. I will make sure that i dont make her do too much when i train with her too and will keep an eye on it. Thank you Mrs N. The advice and info is great.
Interesting Physio's appointment today, went to talk about my foot/ankle and ended up having acupuncture for my hip First time for acupuncture and I have to say other than one needle it didn't hurt But now where the needle did sting it feels bruised but I have been advised to use a tennis ball to massage the joint and the next time he will use acupuncture on my knees
Mrs N has acupuncture on her knee before the op! gave her great pain relief , the art is thousands of years old ,so there must be something in it! when you massage the joint mate use that oil! belt and braces!!
