The bad news is there isn’t one yet. Matt has informed me he’s having issues with virgin or a virgin so can’t kick off the debate. So it’s over to you lot

I will start Thursday 7th August still no attacking signings.
11 days till we play our first game.
We still have Bamford and Harrison and Meslier.
Our first choice goalkeeper is injured.
    Let's see what today brings.

Certainly someone got their wires badly mixed up. Farke originally believing he’d have his squad fully assembled for start of pre season to now hoping it’ll be done by first international break. Wonder how happy he is with the recruitmant

We had a chance of the Chelsea lad who went to Sunderland, we didn't make a move for him in the end despite enquiring.

Now you surely only enquire if you feel they are good enough, Sunderland got him for £50k a week, it seems the £100k a week rumour was nonsense

If we enquired and were told loan only, no option to buy and £50k a week, what were we expecting, why did that reply put us off

Surely he is better than Bamford who has been told he has no future, Gelhardt who is leaving and Joseph who refuses to show up for training

It beggars belief that we can say no, why enquire in the first place

You may be right... but we will enquire about hundreds of players and we'll have a priority order, he may not have been at the priority level to go for him. It's a tricky business...

Lets say you have 5 players on your list for a position, ranked in order.

Player number 4 comes available. Do you take him whilst you think the others are still potentials? So you let him go, then number 3 comes up... but you still think you have a chance of numbers 1 and 2, because the clubs and agents are giving good signals... so you pass on number 3. Next week number 1 turns you down for Marseilles and number 2 does his ACL in training. You then are left busting a gut for number 5 who was only the list in the first place to make the numbers up.

Obviously i've simplified that... but when you think we are looking for 2 strikers probably... a big ticket guy and a cheaper back up... we'll have lengthy lists for each... and what we do with one will impact budget for the other.

I'm not excusing it. It's frustrating as hell from a fan's perspective, I just don't imagine it's an easy job, especially when your hand isn't stacked with aces (which in itself is perhaps a reason to have played safe and taken player number 4) .

Morning all. Think everyone needs to calm down a tad and chill. Plenty of clubs struggling to make signings, not just us and a few on here have been realistic about where we stand in the food chain. So the young lad from Chelsea has gone to Sunderland? £50k a week is big wages for someone behind Joseph in the Spanish pecking order. Effectively we are one player down in the attacking sense and that’s Solomon. The Bogle injury is a worry as Schmidt apparently didn’t look good enough (or interested enough or both). Our opponents Everton haven’t done much either, think Dewsbury-Hall is an average signing, but they do have a good and very experienced manager in Moyes. There’s going to be lots of activity in the last few weeks of this window as usual.

True but those other clubs are far further into their PL development. Were playing catch up on virtually everyone and so far were not doing it

Weird not showing up when I open the Adidas site, nor on any image search in any of the browsers I use.

Expectations are so much higher after Paixao. We'd still be begging for Solomon had we not got so close...

I see where you are coming from but nobody really knows if option 1,2,3,4,5 would be best, if you have enquired about them you would hope you believe they could all do the job. Everton could be a 6 pointer, delays getting the squad assembled could be extremely unforgiving.

We're probably not beating Arsenal away no matter who we sign, Newcastle at home, if we had the signings in place there is a point or more possible there, same with Fulham away. Best case scenario with a decent striker and AM in place 5 points in 4 games, without those players we could be going away to Wolves on match day 5 pointless, if that happens and the pressure of getting our first points we are going to be looking at a considerable gap in front of us

Point is, you would hope that if we approach 5 players they are all good enough, you work your way through and take the first available within a reasonable amount of time.

The 49ers allowed the ones in charge to leave just before the window started and they appointed this new stats orientated man, bad timing if we don't get it right and we can say now, we haven't got it right as it's now approaching a time when any new faces will not be ready to face Everton
