Don't get me wrong. I dont like multi club models. But this is an instance where it works. See also Matsuki. In terms of benefitting the lead clubs, other clubs (like Chelsea) have used it - to help sign players who would not at the time have got a work permit in the UK (or would quickly have lost it through inaction) but can get one in other countries. - to help manage gametime and spread talent in one particular position around before deciding who they want to see at the 'main' club - to give british (and international) players exposure to a relatively controlled environment outside their comfort zone - to give players they might not want to keep the best possible shop window to get a big fee (this is where Valenciennes playing at a higher level could help Saints) - to provide an environment (training set up etc) which is of a higher level than you might expect at that level. If we take Sanda and Ballard as examples. They have a lot of players ahead of them and I'd prefer them to go to an affiliated club on loan now than to go League 1 or wherever with more unknowns/no certainty of game time. Like I said, I dont like the model for football but wrong to say it can't benefit Saints - particularly with the u21 PL not really cutting it in terms of first team prep.
I just can’t see him being first choice at Everton; Moyes has a mixed track record with youth and I think that Tyler still hasn’t sorted out what he is in terms of a footballer… yes he’s got potential and he’ll probably do well in the future but can’t see how a representative for him thinks that a potential bit part role for a PL club is better than a central role with a team built around his strengths in what is arguably a much more competitive league physically. I know others may see it differently, and that’s fine, just seems like he’s jumping at the first opportunity not the best opportunity.
I remember seeing an interview with someone (was a long time ago now, maybe even around the time Ox left) in football who said that the view people within football take with young players is if the chance is there you have to take it because it might not come again. Dibling is clearly flavour of the month at the moment, lots of things could change that mean he’s not in the future. He could get injured, he could have a poor season, someone else could break through and be the “new Dibling” this season, PL sides could sign alternatives and they work out so Dibling isn’t needed. So the whole “he’d be better off staying and developing for another season” argument is more a fan point of view than people in the game it would seem. Probably different if we were in the same league as the teams who are after him, but we aren’t.
Not too sure why we care where he goes, if he goes. As long as we get 50m for him, the rest is on his shoulders.
And a nice juicy sell on clause. Mainly to benefit us financially in the long term but also to piss off the self-entitled bunch of arses that the Everton fans are.
Yes ****ing please. (He also helped take my Yeovil side from the Conference to the Championship back-to-back-to-back on FM )
Talking of FM, signed Ben Seghir as a free agent and he's ****ing immense - 5 goals and 6 assists in 12 games so far from midfield. Best bargain I've ever had.
In theory it benefits us more if he goes to a smaller PL club rather than straight to one of the top clubs. We are more likely to benefit from the sell on and he's more likely to play and so achieve the add ons.
This would be a coup. Surely there is PL interest? I think even from Everton at one point. Unless they are beyond that now. Or believe they are I guess they could do a Liverpool and sign him anyway and still pursue Dibling
Yup; if we're loaning him out, surely he'll get a new contract first? Otherwise we're just losing him for nothing.
