Our bowling is clearly the weak link going forwards, would be nice to get Wheal back for a bit more experience. But a very good performance today.
McMullen will hopefully help there, though it's often be difficult to be sure how success/form in associate-level cricket translates to county cricket. If Wheal does return soon, I imagine that he and McMullen replace Lumsden and Neal. I suppose the unknown is whether we plan to use Abbott or Barker (once fit) at any stage. We might benefit from Fuller being made available for a game or two - on paper, he doesn't get into the Superchargers' best XI - but that's out of our hands.
I'm happy with that, but I don't think the chase will be easy. This has been a slightly difficult wicket all day, and I suspect 145 would have been match winning. So 131 could be defended. Maybe their long tail (Currie at 7!) prevented them from taking a few more risks in the second half of the innings. If we're only going to give Topley 10 balls, then our resources would better served by selecting Thompson instead. I'm not saying that Vince was wrong to only give him 10 balls; just that it's a waste to select someone who can't bat or field, if they're only going to bowl 10. (It won't matter for any games which the ECB make Archer available for, because he'll obviously play instead.)
Well done to Somerset against my team, Middlesex in cruising past the target set with ease. Middlesex have a collection of bang-average players, de Caires apart. There is no oñe in that Middlesex team.capable of taking an attack apart, whereas, I feel Somerset have quite a few.
That was only the 4th ball which Roy faced since he took down Jimmy between 45 and 50. And that's what can happen in the 100, an in-batter gets stuck at the wrong end.
I've know Mills got caught on his second big hit, but I'm not sure I've ever seen him strike the ball so cleanly twice.
