    And to make matters worse, I'll bet there was an orderly queue in the waiting room ;)

    Have any of you guys and girls heard of a Sportsman's Hernia? Kiri has been told that she has a suspected one on her hip which is the cause of a lot of pain for her in her hips, lower back and groin.

    I have never heard of this and am quite worried as it sounds like it could be serious. So i just wondered if you have any experience with them. I have googled it, but there is nothing i can truly understand yet.

    Sorry Dan, I have heard of them in all sorts of places, but never the hip. It seems really unlikely that you can get one there if you think about it.

    Still catching up on my reading, what a lot of windbags we all are. Really pleased for you Al, it must be good to know that there is still life in the old dog yet.

    I have discovered that my trip to England involved six pub meals and at least twelve pints of ale, can't quite remember all of them as I have quite a lot of memory lapses when it comes down to <ale>. However the good news is that I lost 2 kgs and so I will shortly be going into print with my latest diet plan. ;)

    With good cause -

    1) This pain usually radiates to the adductor muscle region and even the testicles;

    2) The most notable clinical sign is dilation of the superficial inguinal ring on the affected side, which can be palpated by the examining doctor when the scrotum is inverted with the little finger.

    Sounds as though she shouldn't have it!

    Plenty life left in the old dog OFH, just nice to have peace of mind that they still will employ me for the last 5 and half years of my contract;)

    Well from what i have read so far, it is possible the pain is in her abdomen but feels like her hip cos often the pain is hard to locate. But i am no expert.

    She said that is what her Physio said to her last time she was there. He cannot find anything wrong with her back which would be causing the pain, so he said that he suspects it could be that.

    She was in a car crash in summer last year where she hurt her back and neck so was having physio for that. But the pain has not gone away and has moved slightly and changed. So the physio said he suspects it could be a sportsman's hernia, but he is not certain and wants her to get it checked out.

    It could be that the pain has transferred because of the way she's been coping with the original pain. For example, if the pain in her back and neck has caused her to lean slightly to one side, that might have put a strain on her hip...simplified because i'm not a doc, but definitely that does happen. Why doesn't he want her to get it checked out? That sounds weird!

    That was what we originally thought, but its not the same type of pain it was after the crash. To start with it was a strong pain that you would expect, then it was a stabbing pain which they put down to a trapped nerve which has been treated now, but that i all i know, she hasn't told me any more. It certainly does happen cos thats what my knees have done, my left one is the weak one so the right takes the strain and is now sore too. He wants her to get it checked because he is not certain what the problem is.

    Thats ok. It was a stab in the dark as it is a specialist injury but we are a wide audience and i thought maybe someone had heard of it.
