In principle this is a good idea but the majority of the wealthiest "Brits" in 2025 are dual nationals, they will go to Israel, America or elsewhere with their money and if we try to clamp down on their assets here in the UK there can be international coordination against the country for appearing authoritarian. Major cuts to social welfare (get out what you pay in), gate keeping (read; protecting) the NHS and other services from people new to the country and even just mass deportations are ways to relieve stress on services, they're sadly seen as far-right nowadays though so it becomes very partisan quickly.
Sorry, not a fan of this guy at all, so won't be watching or trusting anything he says, consider him a left wing Paul Joseph Watson who talks about economics if you want to understand.
He openly states he’s not political. It’s about stopping the collapse of the economy. More fool you. What about Picketty? What about American millionaires https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19UpPkoimp/?mibextid=wwXIfr You can tax anyone who profits from British assets. Wherever they live. If we don’t, we won’t and up having any assets or any services that support those in need. Which side are you on? The billionaires consuming us all or a place of opportunity for all?
How about mass deportations AND taxing billionaires? Cross the bridge and make alliances, make concessions to find broad agreement? Potentially lean into automation and AI, birth rate falling quickly perhaps a Britian of 25-30m could be the future, less reliance on mass immigration in order to keep GDP high and an inflation based economic structure?
I’d say hello Nigel but he wants to redistribute more to billionaires. I’m definitely supportive of managing our borders/ incomers, for safety and manageability. Not sure where there’s a strong economic argument, just an ideological one. Economically it’s a piss in the ocean (for want of a better phrase) compared to the wealth from assets we’re giving to those who have disgusting amounts. Try the Duke of Westminster. A bigger % on him would fund north east youth provision for a hundred years.
Sure but I think the reason Farage is winning isn't due to economics, it's due to social/cultural issues. I feel like people don't even want to put economics on the table, until we get the table in order.
In some places where change is new or in certain groups I agree. Less so where different cultures are already embedded. Migration has landed in most places now because of the numbers. It’s the classic though. ‘It’s their fault I’m hard up’ ‘not enough money to go on everyone so take it off the scapegoat’ ‘lack of services for us’ . The cost of living is a big factor in creating these conditions. Safety definitely another factor though and rightly it needs managing. I’d hardly say white British men are hot on creating personal safety either mind.
I agree that the animating factor for many is the country getting worse, but for me, the issue is more about what defines the nation more than economics, would you rather live in a rich airport where everyone has loads of dosh, or a cohesive country that isn't diverse and understands exactly what it is, but people live in more ordinary circumstances, I'd take the latter a million times over.
That’s your choice. I’ve lived in multiculture communities before here, down music, sport, eaten, studied, been a neighbour to newcomers. It’s made me a better human and probably I feel less threatened as a result. Change is possibly too big for some but some need to change their thinking and enjoy life with other humans.
It's more to do with what England means and what Afghanistan or Palestine means for that matter. Not about having an incredible range of restaurants, we have the recipies and michelin starred chefs afterall.
Again though, England isn’t a place where everybody thinks and behaves the same. It never has been. There are things in place like the convention of human rights, the rule of law, democracy, the national curriculum citizenship programme that build a framework for how we do business and systems in place for how we respond when people breach that. Weirdly people on the right want them to be cancelled. I’d say the huge majority buy into that and most of the others get clobbered. Is the issue that people want it to be white and Christian even though nobody goes to church and white east Europeans are also seen as problematic. I say all that but I think numbers are growing too fast. The issue is because of our systems and inequality they are adversely exposed to places where life is already hard. So you get liberals fighting for migration who live in the posh bits without recognising the existing hardship of those communities. In all I’d say these migrants have more in common with working class people than working class people born here than those people have with Eton boys like Farage and multi millionaires like Tice. But they seem to want to vote for them. Working class wil be destroyed by reform, economically and the loss of services - far more than labour and i’m no fan of labour either. I wish I had a party that felt like a good fit. Probably sticking with green, even though they’re largely weirdo’s. .
If the country and everyone in it is bankrupted, we will survive. If the country becomes something else it is forever changed. You don't have to have hate in your heart to not want that.
I value the changes from migration to our country, largely. It’s pure fantasy to think things were great before. Where negative change has happened; Less services for the vulnerable Our pound is worth less There is widening financial inequality The government and democracy is owned by the wealthy not the people I’d strongly argue that the worst change is the change to US culture The worst migration here is American companies
I like true diversity, when I visit places I want to see that nation for whatever good or bad it has, the Greek fiery temperament and great food, Japanese politeness and their courteous mannerisms, the Nigerian warmth and their thrill for happiness, the Iranian family and spiritual life. The idea that England will not be the England that it was, warts and all, but will be a new country, a new Brazil or elsewhere, makes me sad, this isn't hatred.
Baa as continue original point. Brazil is a country ripped to pieces by poverty and financial inequality. If we don’t change the financial system so the pound is worth for 90% of our people we will have more slums. Il leave you with this analysis of the policies of the champion of old fashioned England https://news.sky.com/story/reform-u...-benefit-high-earners-analysis-shows-13156776
GDP again. I think we're at an impasse, I'd rather be a nation of subsistence farmers for the next 50 years in order to retain the country, because I trust the people of the country to make it great. When it comes to this specific issue, GDP arguments are simply irrelevant to me and actually just demonstrate that people don't really get it.
