Not really. The overall package is the same over the length of the contract and if they flop the loss would be the same. Just instead of amortization it's on the wage bill, but they're essentially the same playing budget anyway.

If he comes and performs he'll justify it.

If he doesn't and players who are on half are picking up the slack, that's where the problems start.

If he scores 20, no one will talk. If he can't even team mates will start to talk. Nature of this kind of business.

With Miller, Haloumi and Matazo to come back over the season, we could really have a decent team hope if we finish mid table that we dont sack the manager.

signing a player for 2.5m and paying them 25k a week for 3 years is the same ball park as a free on 45k for 3 years

I was and I feared the worse this season. Until I went to see them play in the last two friendlies and I was pleasantly surprised how much better we are prepared then this time last season, with arguably lesser players. Perhaps we have recruited a manager who knows what he is doing for a change?
We have also got rid of some of the expensive deadwood at the club, players who I thought were bought and over paid at inflated prices and, in my opinion, dodgy circumstances. Maybe lessons have been learned?
McBurnie will attract a decent wage for himself because he is a proven goal scorer at this level, the attraction is that he is a free agent, therefore we don't have to pay a transfer fee. We have also received ( if reports are factual) £1.5m today for Alzate who came on a free transfer, that's a huge slice of McBurnies contract paid for.
I'm still not 100% happy with the financial dealings at the club but I would have been more worried if we had started the new season off with a threadbare squad that was obviously going to sit at the bottom of the league all season.
As a City fan, I live in hope that those in charge of the club actually know what they are doing, we all obviously think we know better, but maybe, just maybe, lessons have really been learned and they do know what they are doing?
So until we actually know, I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt, even after such a shambolic summer. Give it a couple of months and we shall all know who was right and who was wrong, and its only opinions matey, not life and death.

That’s not my point. Ömür is still on our books and we’re still subsidising his massive salary because Antalyaspor can’t afford to pay all of it. None of the teams that want Ömür can afford him and the ones that could afford him don’t want him. That’s the risk with having players on big salaries. They’re harder to shift if you don’t want them or can’t afford to have them anymore.

That’s why Man Utd have had to loan out the likes of Sancho and Rashford instead of just selling them as other clubs aren’t willing to pay them the same money they’re on at Man Utd. It’s better for them to go out on loan and still earn £300K-a-week whilst Man Utd subsidise half.

It’s funny how quickly things change in football. Win our first 3 we’ll be winning the league. Lose the next 3 we’ll be finishing bottom and going bust.

We'd be taking a hit in both fees and wages regardless of how it's structured if he flops.

The size of the gamble is the same.

    Thats a good point

Players are easy to shift out if theyre on lower wages
    If mcburnie is ****
And we want rid in 1 or 2 years
Hes not gonna accept going elsewhere for half wages is he

I still really do think he will be great for us on the pitch
But its a risk with a lot of money

Right, but if we'd paid 3m in fees then you might cover the 25k wages but you still take a hit on the fee anyway. No different than covering 20k a year of his wages

If its £45k a week, something has radically changed to give us headroom for the EFL to sanction it, didnt they veto the same deal a few weeks back on affordability issues ?

There's realistically little to no resale value on McBurnie too.

I'm not against the deal but I can certainly understand both points of view

We've sold Alzate, Jones and Macca since then, so we've got rid of their wage commitments and brought in about 5mil potentially if what Baz says about Jones fee is true.

There's no doubt it's on the high side. Still not buying into the Bullard comparison though as that was 15+ years ago and wage inflation has been huge since then.

There is no way the EFL are letting us pay £45k a week
