I keep seeing these comments about why we should be signing 'experienced established' players from the PL, etc ... ... why would they do that when all we can really offer is a relegation battle. It's not like we're established or experienced ourselves. "Do you fancy going to live in the far North East of England to play for a club that's won nothing in your father's lifetime?" "WTF."
I keep seeing phrases like 'absolutely critical' and 'totally desperate for two CBs' ... ... be nice and I'm hoping the club can sort it but my excitement, getting off the train at St Peters' on the 16th, won't be affected in the slightest. The club are clearly, couldn't be clearer, doing everything possible, that'll do me.
Yep, it's as simple as that. It's often said, " Oh just buy a few players with PL experience". But it's a hopeless argument. You either wimp your way back down or do something radical. We had to try that. Worth some remembering we were miles behind the top two, miles. And they are very short, as all promoted sides are. We are looking at a different course, and I'm more than happy with us trying it
It’s clearly a competitive position to fill and there’ll be a lot to weigh up and balance. I’d love us to nail it of course but we can’t let no news drive us mad when we know we have people appearing from nowhere.
In an ideal world at least one centre back would be in over the next few days and able to play on Saturday. Next tuesday / wednesday would be the absolute latest for me. Every confidence the club are doing everything they can, but doesn't mean they'll be successful. Just got to hope and trust.
I remember being in school would have been about 11 or 12 when the mags got to the cup final. The Friday before was dedicated black and white day when everyone was told to come in wearing Newcastle shirts etc. I came in wearing a plain t shirt and jogging pants. I hadn't even made the gates when I was asked why I wasn't wearing a Scumcastle top. I could have avoided anything else by simply saying I'm not into football but the cheeky little **** in me said I'm a Sunderland fan I hope you get beat. Next thing I know I'm on the deck getting shoed. I eventually made it into school battered and bleeding. The teacher asked what happened so I told her and was taken to the school reception where they called my mam to pick me up and take me home. Both my parents were at work however so I was sent away from school for my own safety and spent 6 hours roaming the streets till my mam was home from work. They got to the cup final the next year and the black and white day was a thing again. This time my mam called in sick on my behalf.
We definitely need to sign 2 CBs imo, but I'm not sure we are at the desperate stage yet What I mean by that is we still just under a month until the window closes so the aim is still to get real quality in by then Kouma was a good player, but last 2 seasons I don't think hes played at a good level. Yes folk can say he's better than what we have now but we can definitely sign a lot better than him and that has to be the aim
My daughter now lives in one of the new build estates in Cramlington, when I visit all I've seen is Mag shirts. I would love to see the the odd Sunderland one.
Yeah I definitely agree there. Was really hoping the defence was sorted for the West Ham game. Not particularly confident as it stands
I agree. I don't like the word desperate. It has connotations that we're at the point that we'll sign anybody just to get a body in. Which isn't the case. I agree with what I think the underlying sentiment is of the people using the word desperate though - that we really need somebody.
Yep i wouldn't be confident either, however, that can change quickly. Hopefully we get someone in early this week so they can play this weekend with Ballard, just so they can get some minutes together. 1 CB for West Ham would be ideal, Hume Ballard new CB and Reinildo would make me feel more confident. We cant have Harrison Jones starting against Bowen. I really like Jones as a player but he's not a LB and Bowen is a top draw winger.
