Because he cost the same as Santos and Clichy, and is miles better defensively and offensively? Apart from that, no reason at all
Went over your head that one, eh? Considering our respective opposition over the next few weeks we could even be ahead of City soon. Still, QPR away on Sunday so **** knows.
To be honest I'd have quite liked Utd to go in for him, what with O'Shea leaving, Rafael and Fabio both being a bit injury prone, and Evra looking increasingly disinterested. At the very least we could have given Liverpool a bit of a challenge for his signature, tho he's probably not flexible enough for us to want as a back up.
the papers tomorrow will be full of pictures of lampard and how he won the game but in truth he did **** all in the game but the hit penalty
I don't think anyone could have predicted Evra's plumet in form and the continued injuries to that pair but I agree he would have been a very good signing in a now problem position. Both full back slots are our weakness. Hindsight, eh?
It's just a facepalm. I thought I'd add a bit of colour to my posts, hope it hasn't angered you too much mate. He would've been a good replacement for Evra though, as he's hardly setting the world alight in terms of performances in the last couple of seasons, plus the fact he's not getting younger. But that'd mean sacrificing Evra's experience and leadership qualities, and I don't think you could afford doing that this summer with Neville, Scholes, Van der Sar and other experienced players leaving.
I always find them to be a piss take to be honest but no offence taken. I have issues with them, I need to get it sorted!! I only referred to him as a worldy or best in league as a follow up to some stuff discussed earlier. Twas a mere joke that fell on deaf ears sadly!
Wouldn't say Evra's form has plummeted, but he does seem to be cruising right now - I think being made captain in Vidic's absence and having no real competition is making him complacent. He's still good, but not as good as he was, or could be. Aye, it'd be good to have him there for when we need to get rid of Evra, but the two of them are still at a similar enough level that I don't think he'd replace Evra until the end of this season at least given his experience and the need to keep the defence as settled as possible with the new keeper and Jones and Smalling coming in. And I guess with the others retiring LB wasn't much of a priority in the summer given that Evra's rarely injured.
I think he's been playing ****. He was diabolical against Benfica, invisible in fact. Plenty to say afterwards but he did sod all to help win the game. He needs to pull his socks up, which is what you're alluding to but I personally think his form has been poor.
