They will be auto-relegated at the end of year and all fixtures will be 3 points for opponents. so only 2 other team will relegate.

If Wednesday are kicked out, they'll effectively have to do what Bury did, which was exist in limbo for a season before closing down and reforming in the lower tiers of the non-league pyramid. Bury actually merged with the phoenix team that formed when they first got expelled, so they're effectively the same club again, but play at the same level as Ferriby. The fans had to buy Gigg Lane from the administrators.

Aha. So Sheffield Wednesday will be deducted 9 points and Stoke will avoid relegation ?

After my previous post I was intrigued as to what Bury did when they got expelled in 2019, as they didn't actually stop trading as a club and still had players attached to them (and a youth set up) until 2020.

Turns out, in 2021, shortly before the club went into administration, Everton chairman Bill Kenwright tried to give them £1m as a gift to keep going, but the EFL blocked it under conflict of interest. Pretty ****y behaviour.

If they go into administration, then they'll be docked points, but that's for clubs that can't afford to pay creditors; I'm not sure there's a precedent for clubs that have the money but just refuse to pay their players because their owner is a mentalist.

If they infringe upon the rules, then they can be expelled, but they aren't relegated, they're literally booted out of the league system entirely. At which point, they'll either fold and have to reform, presumably as Sheffield Thursday, or get their ownership sorted and re enter at Step 9 or 10 of the football pyramid.

Exactly. The EFL are a typical British institution of jobsworths. ‘Rules are rules’.

What’s the difference between Everton’s chairman giving Bury a cash gift with no strings attached versus a portion of the Premier League’s revenue being distributed down the pyramid to teams in the EFL? Like I said, the EFL only care if their members can fulfil their fixtures and if they can’t, they’ll just expel them.

Exactly, they're not there to support clubs, they're there to protect the integrity of the competition.

They're effectively like the ref bots in Robot Wars; as long as the rules aren't broken there are no consequences, but in the mean time feel free to take a ****ing buzz saw to the chest and die in a corner. Just don't cheat.

Slightly away from the goings on at Sheffield Wednesday, but the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round was played today and featured three East Yorkshire teams.

    Redcar Athletic 2-0 North Ferriby

    Birtley Town 3 - 1 Beverley Town

    Knaresborough Town 0 - 0 Bridlington Town

Only nine games to win if Brid want a chance at facing the Tigers. Dare to dream.

On a slightly different tangent, today 6 Yorkshire teams and 2 Lincolnshire teams had opening season games in either League 1 or League 2.
All 8 of those EFL clubs won their matches against non-Yorks or non-Lincs clubs.
    Must be a first. :emoticon-0148-yes:

*Sigh*. Looks like we'll have to fly the flag for the region again then eh, unless Brid can do the job

It's a sad indictment of just how far Hall Road Rangers have fallen that they just withdrew from the league, joined the Humber Prem and won't get a shot at the FA Cup unless they decide to go for promotion again, which they won't any time soon.

Westella and Willerby also gave it a go but couldn't manage it, neither could Hull United (less sad considering it was one of Jamie Waltham's con jobs). Goole AFC also don't play high enough to enter the extra preliminary qualifying rounds.

Still unresolved then? Their game against Leicester on Sunday still on the fixture list I see.

Really sad what has happened to Hall Road Rangers, I played against them back in the day, always had a good side.

Good read, as a fellow Epileptic I know the trials and tribulations, I lost my driving licence twice for 2 years each time, fortunately they got my medication sorted and for 20 years have been free of any fits.

Went to see Hull City Ladies vs Hamilton Academicals WFC at Bishop Burton. Finished 2-0 To Hull City Ladies and an entertaining game. Bishop Burton College is very impressive facility. Had an amusing incident in the first half when we had a robotic pitch invader in the form of a lawn mower which was turned off and removed by the Hull City manager. Fortunately, it happened during an injury stoppage so didn't interfere with play.

Seen a few clips of that Birmingham documentary and wondering if I should watch it.

It’s mad because watching Rooney as a player, he was extremely competitive and gave everything on the pitch. As a coach, he’s one of the laziest and most uninspiring ones going in modern football. When he was at both Brum and Plymouth, there’s loads of stories about him constantly on the piss in the local pubs and bars, turning up late for training, sometimes not turning up at all and even turning up pissed or hungover. He’s proof not all great players are suited for coaching.

Watched episode one earlier, Rooney features briefly, and it was nice to see us stuff them 2-0 on their own patch. It also features the owners visiting a local pub on match day, how very novel. At that point I almost turned it off, the drinkers started chanting USA, ****ers akin to the Turkish flag wavers we have. :emoticon-0138-think
