Selles identified we didn't have the attacking quality to blow teams away and set us up to grind out points. Which we did. In his second season at reading he had them in play off contention. To write off his ability because we stayed up in one way not another is incredibly short sighted. The fact Sheffield United snapped him up is indicative of his standing in the division. You're missing my point if you think me saying I haven't seen anything from jak is about me choosing not to watch us have a kick around.
What a load of bolloxks. Much stronger division this year, under a fee restriction, lost some key performers and yet if Jak merely matches Selles he’s not an improvement. You don’t half talk some utter ****e.
i wonder how kone will do in the champ, i think thats quite an expensive deal for him, far more than mcburnie would cost us potential for more resell though, but from the glimpses ive seen of kone, its a risk
I think he'll join, I suspect we are offering the largest salary, length of contract will be the same, he'll play whenever fit and it's near to where he has lived / lives - Championship is his level, unless he wants to sit on the bench, do massive commutes, then why would he pick elsewhere?
unless the blunts come in for him, i cant see him going anywhere but us, now the wage restriction has been reduced/gone
I said material improvement. This started because someone said our best signing was a new manager. That'd be like someone gushing over us bringing in a new keeper.
To be fair given our circumstances I think Selles would have struggled. Not sure he has the gravitas of Jakirovic and we would have been fishing in a different pond if he had stayed. Not like he could have snapped up any Reading players on a free now they have new owners either. So I do see where those comments are coming from.
Im very much hoping we have a great season I just think people are getting a bit carried away with a few pre season results.
I would’ve kept Sellés for continuity and stability but I won’t lie, I thought the football was dreadful. Maybe it would’ve been different after a full pre-season but it was a struggle to watch. He kept us up with a ‘defence first’ mentality though. Dare I say, when we had the ball under Sellés, it was worse than under Walter.
It was the same under Rosenior though and I thought we were very different in his full season. Some will beg to differ I'm sure.
Apols if this is old news or advised elsewhere but Home game with Blunts and Pompey now 12 30 - that should please the Pompey fans - and Boro moved to Friday night - Norwich away moved to 12 30 as well
As my last sentence indicates, I figured some would disagree, but it was one of our highest scoring seasons and I really think a handful of poor performances colour perceptions. Our performances against soton, Ipswich, Leicester etc were brilliant.
