Joey Barton has paid tribute to the Kop after he received a rapturous ovation during Saturday's 1-0 success over QPR. The former Newcastle midfielder's reputation has risen amongst Reds fans after he was a vocal supporter of an online petition urging the government to withdraw its opposition to the full disclosure of documents relating to the 1989 Hillsborough disaster. Communicating via his official Twitter account following the game, Barton said: "Ah well, maybe we could have nicked a point in the end. Definitely the stronger team towards the end. Liverpool played some great football 1st. "Just like to say thanks to The Kop for their reception today. Means a lot.....#jft96"
To be fair, hes a blue boy and hes been a fool during his career with his off field antics but he showed his local loyalty in the recent Hillsborough e-petition drive. Fair play to the lad.
Yet he still managed to do pathetic facial expressions to the crowd, at the expense of Suarez. If he wants to become the next Cantona-esque football philosopher, he needs to ****ing grow up. GKRK.
Pulling faces means nothing compared to his gesture of pulling in more emails for the Hillsborough e-petition.
what was his row with bellamy about - after bellamy nearly scored from a free kick he was booked after arguing with barton - didn't see what happened as they were showing the replay of the free kick - bellamy didn't look to happy about being booked as barton was mouthing off in his direction
i know but bellamy was booked and barton wasn't - if the ref acted on reputations then they probably both would have seen red
Barton seems to have curbed his anger issues somewhat. I followed him on Twitter to see him implode but in fact he comes accross as a good lad. What he did for the Hillsborough capaign was laudible. Everything he has done to repair his reputation would be undermined with one incident off or on the field tho - he has had a few 'second chances' in his career - I hope he has turned the corner and wish him well.
I like the guy, tells it like it is, instead of the non informative crap you get from most footballers I wudda signed him in the summer, and Ive heard rumours there was interest from us but he was worried about the fuss it would have created in the City and the amount of grief there would have been for him if he would have come
yea heard this ^ rumour also. I was (and still am) surprised Arsenal & Man Utd didn't go for him - midfield general if there ever was one...
barton is what he is... he's shown a few times he's got a big heart but he's also shown he's a nasty uncontrolled temper and has a bit of malice too. he is what he is. there are probably more in the camp waiting for him to do something to come down on him than there are guys willing to cut him any slack, me i don't really have an opinion on him cos i only see second hand stuff mostly.
I like Barton, especially after what he did for Hillsborough. I wouldn't look into his gestures too much, I mean it wasn't as bad as his gesture towards his beloved BS. please log in to view this image
Aye. Can't see what the fuss is all about though, I mean the camera always captures me pulling all kinds of faces I didn't know existed from everyday life. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
