Fonte had been in England for seven years though, and at Saints for five of those. So he was a senior player, and presumably his English would have been more advanced than Mateus'. Only possible captains we have at the club, imo, are McCarthy, Ramsdale, Stephens, Adarma, and Downes. Maybe THB too.
Adarma did a decent job covering as captain a couple of years ago, depends if he plays much I suppose. I don't like this idea that someone must play because they are the captain.
McCarthy - we have no idea if he’ll be playing. I suspect not. Ramsdale - we have no idea if he’ll be here, he’ll want out if the opportunity arises. Stephens - is probably going to remain the captain, but most fans see him as an experienced backup rather than a starter. Plus those sendings off last season… Adarma - quite possibly wants out, and should we get promoted he and we know he won’t be part of our plans if he does stay. Downes - we know has wanted out recently, no idea if he’s settled with Still or not. THB - we know has wanted out, and quite possibly still does. So yeah, doesn’t exactly bode well in terms of who should be captain. I think if there is to be an announcement who Stills captain will be, it should wait until after the window shuts.
Jack will be club captain and captain if on the pitch. I definitely wouldn't discount Charles to be matchday Captain. Has captained his country, title winning Man City u21 etc. Will be just as important as any player for us this season. Would send a good message I think about the type of team we want to be (young, confident and different to last season!)
Can’t remember, was something about them wanting a double deal for Dibling and Charles. Probably one of those NewsNow sites. It’s quiet on all rumours out atm (haven’t seen anything for Ramsdale/Dibling/Fernandes) but they will likely all go, plus others. Maybe Charles will be one of them
Yep I remember seeing that too. Charles and Fernandes IIRC. A tweet about West Ham thinking they’d get them cheap due to us having to cut costs in the Championship. BS though I thought?
Couldn’t remember if it was Charles and Dibling or Charles and Fernandes. Anyway the fact there have been any links to PL sides means there is a reasonable chance he’ll leave I think. According to Toms logic of quiet on rumours front then we likely keep Fernandes, Dibling, and until about 3 hours ago, Ramsdale.
And if Rambo is sold and not loaned, all eyes will be on the club to see what we do about a GK. Still mentioned that he knew who wanted to leave so I imagine they will know what they want to do.
I reckon Still will bring in a new player as captain. Not convinced the team in September will resemble the current squad. I think we will lose the likes of Dibling, Fernandes and Charles. Just think the logic will be to sign an experienced 30 something midfielder to add some leadership to the team. Need to dispense you youth and get a leader on the pitch.
