Santon reminded me of that spanish lad who use to play for us...<whistle>

Never really got a good look at him defensively but his link-up play with Jonas was great AND he can take long throw ins. <ok>

No but we knew when we signed him he had a long term injury issue. hence he cost 5m and Inter were willing to do business. They clearly thought the chances were he was gonna have this knee problem for the rest of his career. We took the punt that if we look after him it may go away.

On the game I thought he looked every bit the class defender I watched at Inter, and bar his goalkeeping skills had a very solid debut. Certainly looked class when on the ball. James Perch on the other hand...........................

Do you really think I'd forget them?

I think it was something like Joseph? Mosé? Jackay?

His long throws look effortless, he put one into Ameobi in the box with no run up <yikes>

    Agreed.

Baffling as to what the manager is thinking of by not actively looking at games to bring him in.

You wouldn't think the coaching staff get to work with him day in day out........

Or maybe they do and thus know much more than you.

He's come carrying an injury. It is not one that was thought to be serious but it has been a nagging problem since 2009. The club have taken a punt as with Marveaux, Ba etc. Some will come off and some won't. But the thing with Santon is the risk was deemed worth it because you are talking about a potentially world class player worth an absolute fortune if fit. Pardew is simply playing the long game by giving him as much time as possible to get right. We've been doing well so Pardew has simply taken the sensible course and tried to let his knee have some respite. The problem may or may not clear in time.

I know, I was willing him on to use the massive space behind the sidelines there but he merely gave it a chuck and it was straight in the box. <diva>

Not at the expense of losing him for a long period of time by aggravating the injury though, that would just be stupid.

Maybe, because they work with him every day, they know something you don't. You can make all the remarks like this that you want, but they know more about him than you do.

  19. I don't know like, he looks good on the ball but when players are running at him... he doesn't look very convincing to me. He needs Jonas's help just as much as Raylor does.

The fact that it was Raylor at RB suggests that Pardew plans to drop Raylor or Simpson once Colo and Willo are back.
