So Swarbs, I see you're discounting Liverpool from a top 4 finish. Just remind me who scored for Arsenal at home at the weekend. Ah, Van Persie you say. Again. So who steps up when he gets injured? He will get injured, unless night stops following day. Then they're royally f..ked. Spurs beaten by Stoke. I don't care if the ref got a few wrong. We've had our fair share already, and they're due a bad run. Chelsea? They're really not very good are they? We showed them up for what they are - twice. Whilst I still think it's a big ask, it's not gone yet. 6 - 3 for December Swarbs
Not entirely discounting you, but as I've said before I don't really rate you as top four contenders this season. You just aren't consistent enough - the last time you won two in a row in the league was back at the start of October, and you haven't won three in a row all season. And this weekend was just another example of why - you were a QPR defensive error away from a fifth home draw in a row. You just aren't dealing with the lower teams as well as any of the other top six, and it's always the results against the lower teams that decide those top places. I'm not saying I think you'll be miles off the pace - like you say, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea will all likely stutter at some point. Tho' pointing out Spur's loss to Stoke is a bit of a losing argument - you also lost to Stoke and got utterly humbled by Spurs. And Arsenal aren't much more reliant on RVP that you are on Suarez - without Suarez you'd be the lowest scoring team in the entire PL. Ultimately, pointing out the potential weaknesses in the clubs above puts you in no better a situation than the Utd fans claiming City will slip up in the New Year cos of the ACN and lack of title winning experience in their squad. You're hoping that they will fail, not that your own club will suddenly succeed. And even if those three have a run of bad results I'm just not convinced Liverpool will take advantage without a more proficient striker to regularly kill off the clubs you should be beating.
Excuse me, that's bollocks. I said Fergusons selections throughout qualifying were the root reason for us not getting through and that one or two of our players are not good enough. I did not 'bemoan our players'. Or or two aren't good enough, it is a fact. Unlike the general consensus of Liverpool supporters, I do not think that every player in my club is either world class or the best in the league in their position. I'll leave deluded dreaming to you lot and a bit of reality for my own. Cheers.
C'mon Citehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! v Chelski, and v L'Arse Id luv 2 c Citeh get 6 pts from next 2 games, cant see it though
Bloody hell. Bit of a heavy reaction. If you and Eric go back (can't remember the thread), but it was on Friday morning, you were a tad more despondent than that. I'd like to think that it's been established I'm not 'deluded' (hate that word), but I didn't expect you to go out just like I think it's going to be very hard for us to finish top 4: not, however, impossible - that's realism
I'm not "relying" on these scenarios unfolding, just that they may, as may the situation you described with Liverpool. No-one can know, unless it's custard or contscrepe, of course.
I came in all guns blazing and I know that you're one of the realistic Pool fans so I should retract the tone of my post. I will say though that whilst I was despondant I was also on other thread optimistically looking at options as to how to approach the rest of the season and defend our title. I'm rather confident we can too, so long as we don't get hit by any more injuries. If anyone can, we can and I think we'll battle to the end. There is no doubt at all in my mind though that one or two of the players who played against Basle and Palace simply are not good enough and we need a couple of fresh faces. It's obvious to me who they are, I'll leave it to Fergie to do his job and sort it out. The word delusion, I don't hate it I just think it is criminally overused on football threads. It is applicable sometimes though and I've seen **** loads of times wild claims that 'Pool have world class players here and there and the best in theirr position in the league in practically all positions. I even heard Agger described as world class last week which is utter bollocks. It's the new 'Pool tag line, taking over from next year is our year!!
I don't mind the word 'delusion' if used in the correct context. Indeed, at primary school in Liverpool (aged 8 or 9?), I wrote a story called 'The Mists of Delusion'. My teacher described me in my report as having a "remarkable vocabulary". F..k me, how right the old slapper was
The word is used completely out of context. If you look at the meaning: "A delusion is a false belief held with absolute conviction despite superior evidence". If I were to say we WILL win the league then this would be considered as delusion as there is no evidence to back this up. Whereas if we were to say we CAN win the league, however unlikely there is no evidence or guarantee to suggest otherwise. I will be deluded to say that Utd will not win the league until mathematically impossible so to save my self from being deluded I will say I don't think Utd or Liverpool will win the league. Yes he is.
It's dead on here today RR, not even worth the banter. Anyway...Chelsea v City tonight. We're hoping for a Chelsea loss whereas you guys are hoping for a City loss. Should be interesting.
You are relying on the scenarios happening to get fourth, as if recent form continues the top four will be definitely be fourth. Either Liverpool have to get better or two of Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea have to get worse if you're to achieve fourth. Technically none of those would class as delusions, cos you can only be deluded about a fact or value judgement, not a future occurrence. Claiming Liverpool would definitely win the league would constitute irrational pride and flawed judgement more than delusion. But Deludapool sounds much better than Irrational Prideapool
Yep, got to say I hope for a Chelsea win. In all seriousness, looking at our next few games and City's there's a reality we could be level very soon. If we're level at the turn of the year then it's game on, I hope to God we get no further injuries though. City are the form horse but if they get similar injuries to ours they also could slump, they aren't that strong up front or in the centre of defence. Any of their defence in fact.
