Another article: https://foot-africa.com/en/news/newcastle-united-want-to-sign-mahamadou-doumbia-806957/ "The Magpies are preparing to activate his €20 million release clause after the youngster's breakthrough season in Belgium, where his spectacular goals and all-action performances drew comparisons to Ivorian legend Yaya Touré." This seems a bit overkill, as he only managed 3 goals last season! But that comes in at £17m, which seems good value in today's market, and will (presumably) be a step up form Longstaff.
Looks like he's got a bit of everything like Joelinton to me. Actually has some similar attributes to Guimareas, so there could be something in this one... Nice back up
The thing is when Newcastle first wanted Ekitike people were saying he was **** and in a farmers league.. Fast fwd 3 years and he's one of the world's most sought after players. This is why Newcastle need to trust in the scouts a bit more on these seemingly risk additions.
Exactly this, it’s mystifying why we don’t make more signings like this. Minteh was similar. With one signing for the first team we are the lowest in the PL across this summer so far
Well, apparently we can only work on one deal at a time, so expect a few weeks of little news as we haggle over Wissa's price tag. That'll then collapse when Spurs jump in and pay up. That'll leave us about three weeks to sign the 3-4 players we were wanting.
Maybe they work best under pressure. Like having to write an essay for university - you have 6 weeks to do it but decide to start it the day before it's due
Yup. Pick up raw prospects for peanuts and develop them. Farmers league is irrelevant. Some of the worlds best players have started in less competitive leagues.
I think, due to Champions League qualification, our strategy has been trying to get players that are ready now and don't need the development time which will take a season or 2. I suspect that having tried and failed in that, we will resort to what we have been good at and look to buy developing talent for the rest of the window and hope they can cut it in the CL.
Which is obviously correct now, but if we were sitting here with Huijsen, Pedro, Mbeumo now, I think that opinion would be different. We chanced our arm on them, failed and now need to pivot while there is still time left in the window
We do, but will we? This Doumbia kid is only a rumour from Africafoot who are slightly less reliable than any senile mother.
That ****ing bag and teddy bear are enough to say bullet well and truly dodged. He's a ****ing fanny.
He is a muppet who was once talked out of joining Newcastle by his mate Simon Mignolet because "it gets dark at 4 oclock in winter and theres nothing to do". Yep, the same Mignolet who once convinced some gadgey called De Bock to join Sunlun "cos theyre a big club". https://tinyurl.com/2v8dy74c
