Genuine question, why don’t you guys join a politics forum for your political posts and keep this one for City related posts?

I’d be more than happy to do the same, before some of you accuse me of being a hypocrite.

Ashton the beauty of this site is you have a choice of joining in or not liking or not liking.... I for one don't actually take part in the word link one... But don't say take it off somewhere else. Do you think as a group of like-minded persons if we all met up in pub we would only chat about Bristol city???
I go to the pub a couple times a week we don't spend an hour chatting about our hobby but embrace all manner of topics ......bit like on here but face to face .
Our forum works very well and I certainly gain from it long may it continue.

Prior to the GE you were forever, correctly, berating the useless Tory government.
Boot on the other foot and you change tack completely.

note last year hmrc collected around £858,000,000,000 in 2024/25...............

..............During 2024 to 2025, receipts from Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and NICs combined accounted for 57% of annual receipts. Over the last decade, Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and NICs made up on average 56% of total annual receipts with VAT and business taxes the next largest contributors, contributing an average 21% and 10% of total receipts respectively. .......................... we spend

£2 of the tax we pay [ various ways ] on the illegal boat people. But dont forget this is only a part of the problem a few 10's of 000's arrive by other methods!!!!

Afghan migrants also top the chart for crimes such as rape, sexual assault and violence in the UK and are 22 times more likely to offend than a British person
But here we are having to take tens of thousands more of them while this pathetic excuse of a Government stands around and watches the country go to the dogs

The BBC's business editor, Simon Jack, has just interviewed Environment Secretary Steve Reed, after he announced the government will abolish Ofwat, the water regulator.
He's asked why the possibility of nationalisation was not included in the scope of today's report, as campaigners had hoped it would be.
Reed says there's "no point examining something that wouldn't work", adding that the cost would have been £1bn - "money we don't have".
He says the money required would have needed to have been taken from the NHS and education budgets, and there would have been "legal wrangling".

    NOTE THE £1, 000,000,000
... THE .gov CAN find £15,000,000,000 to pay for 140,000 illegal boat crossers ... [ just around stopping 17,000 would cost that pa ]

the .GOV is like a 5000 piece jig saw puzzle ... when you open the box [ get elected ] you should set out to find the 4 corners, then maybe all the edges or a domninant colour at the present moment they are still trying to open the box.......................

Not so long ago the talk would have been in millions of £
Now literally everything is in billions of £
If the Government took a step back and applied one iota of common sense and showed a bit of bravery on legal and illegal immigration and the astronomical cost of welfare then put in a tax cut to promote growth they may see a better economic outlook and forecast
They are unbelievably stupid to ignore the obvious cost savings regardless of who is upset
But no, instead they’d rather persecute the workers while the black economy thrives and public coffers don’t see a penny in return

Fergal Sharkey reckons all the costs being mentioned are baloney.
Reckons these figures are being 'manipulated' for political purposes.

    I trust Fergal Sharkey.

People arent bothered whether the sales of dinghy’s and spares are disrupted, or whether gangs are ‘smashed’
People don’t give a toss about foreign people smugglers being named
The French are laughing at us and don’t do the job we help to fund unless there’s a BBC film crew there

But what tens of millions of ordinary people do want most of all, and this inept Government still don’t get it, is to stop thousands of undocumented and unwelcome people coming here that we have to fund, while the country is on its arse and taxes are being hiked to pay for it. Period
All the rest is just noise

Starmer, Cooper - these are not refugees ffs
Stop them in the channel and take them back to where they set off from, they have no right to be here and I resent paying for them.

Sod the ECHR. Other countries ignore it and it’s about time that we did too

The government publishes daily figures, external on the number of people crossing the Channel in small boats. As of 20 July, 23,534 people had arrived in the UK so far this year, up by about 50% on the same period last year.

In addition, nearly 14,000 “preventions” have been recorded by French authorities in 2025. This a broad category that includes people prevented from crossing, people arrested for facilitating the crossings, and occasions when small boat equipment has been found.

worst ever start to a year
