Jake Humphrey was not a F1 fans before he got the job and I never got the sense he really knew what he was talking about. If the bimbo in question is Georgie Thompson then she is a F1 fan.
Blue shirts, no ties, black suits, grey suit, red dresses that clash, guilty faces and a cheap background. Doesn't inspire confidence. It would look a lot less awkward if they tried holding hands.
Cosicave I totally agree with you on David Croft. However despite Legard's shortcomings as a tv commentator he actually made a brilliant radio commentator. The difficulty in transferring from radio to tv was proved there and then with Legard. But "Crofty" - he loves the sound of his own voice. He's got that cocky 'yeah look at me while I confidently predict the outcomes of this race and suck up to anyone who looks fit to suck up' commentators voice which suits Sky just perfectly. That said Martin Brundle and Anthony Davidson look out of place in that team. And the typical Sky trick of "let's bring in eye candy" has not gone amiss here. BBC have done well in saving DC and Jake (who was never going to go to Sky as he's hell bent on covering the London Olympics and so he should be). Looks like Eddie will be there as well again.
wont be a problem for me forza , some of us like to see a bit of eye candy in the line up , dont think i qualify for the shirt lifter brigade just yet - you sound as if you know something about the " millions of videos available on the internet " forza --
you will have to fill me in on that one saint - can briefly recall touching on my inept pushbike riding skills and my martial arts activities and my vitamin popping obsession , cant ever recall telling people whether or not i visit the one handed sites --
I for one have Sky with Sky Sports and the HD pack so I will receive the channel. I however am disappointed with Sky's inability to sign EJ and DC. I however am happy they hired Georgie Thompson as she is really good on Sky Sports News. We'll have to see how Sky's coverage shapes up next year: - Better content - Weekly Magazine - Archived Content - Driver Parade LIVE in early morning for fans to see. I for one am really looking forward to Sky's coverage because they seem to be really making a bigger effort than the BBC.
At last. Sir Rupert can do what he's done with the EPL, cricket, rugby, darts, snooker etc which is to make F1 a world class sport with world class coverage. Thank you Sir Rupert and Sir James. You get what you pay for. I defy anyone to say Sky's coverage of sport in general isn't stunning.
The rugby league teams have no money for the same reason most premiership teams don't. They get a lot from the TV rights but they are in a spending arms race with each other for players which is where their money goes.
According the wikipedia there are 25,459,000 tv licences with about 10,000,000 having sky. F1 peaked at 6 million viewers, with maybe 5 million being the average. Assuming not much changes and basic maths thats a potential loss down to 2 million viewers. I'm guessing sky will probably get closer to 3m, peaking at maybe 4m for the first race.
I cant see how sky will capture the audiances when its not on the main sports channels. Surely a lot of people who watched it were just flicking through the 5 terestrial channels and thought hmm ill stick with BBC1.
give it 2 years and I bet the viewing figures are back to around free to air levels if not higher if a Brit ends up WDC. Unlike the BBC Sky will be advertising the F1 across every medium possible and they know how to make something look appealing. With over a third of their customers already getting it for free the rest only need to pay £10 per month extra to get it, plus it's not as if you only get the F1 for that £10. How many of those on here who defiantly will never have Sky forked out for a HD TV?
Sorry to talk about the wrong sport, but last I heard Channel 5 was still getting higher ratings for an average Europa League match than Sky was for its football games. An approximate F1 analogy would be Pastor Maldonado in this season's Williams beating Sebastian Vettel in this season's Red Bull more than half the time, if Vettel gets a drive through penalty at every race. Even in races that they only have highlights for next season, the BBC will get better ratings than Sky. It's just a question of how much. Sky is still not big enough to beat the BBC in a straight ratings fight, but in fairness to the phone-hacking anti-*****philes who spent weeks counting down the days until Charlotte Church's sixteenth birthday, they are pulling out all the stops to narrow that gap.
Oh it's stunning. It's just a shame that the additional cash it's given the Premier League teams has allowed them to vampirise the sport, and build a bubble of crazy economic over-spending which will eventually burst. Sky's plans will flop and deservedly so.
