I always say this these days but if Scott Parker was ever to step out against the Addicks I'd boo the feck out of him. Provided he stays away from us I couldnt care less what he did to us that January everytime I watch him, I'm delighted to see him getting the recognition he deserves and I stop for a second and think.... we produced that talent from OUR Youth Team
He handled it wrong, but he admitted to his mistakes with us- so I'd clap him. Plus he was a hero when I was in my early teens.
Parker is a major bell end that drove the biggest nail into this club than any other player. I am glad his career will be forever remembered as he 'should have done more' the prime example of greed before ambition. I personally hope he never plays for England as he fits in far too comfortbaly with the other tossers that represent our nation, like crouch, terry, cole etc.
I can't agree with that at all. Defoe was sixteen or seventeen when he left us.A kid managed by his family who saw the pennies for them rather than Defoe actually progressing as a player. What choice did he have? That slag Parker sold US out, the fans and the club. He broke curbishley and offered what as an apology? I hope his toes fall off.
At least Parker gave us some payback for a few years in the first team after looking after him since 11 - Defoe didnt.
What payback was that! Relegation? Striking? Breaking up a winning club?insulting the fans?undermining the manager? We would have lasted a lot longer in the prem if parker was not such a andy hunt. Didn't do west ham any favours did he? Defoe did not even know he was leaving cafc.
So, the years we were in the prem with Parker mean nothing then? He left to join a team that were title contenders and in Europe - wouldnt you try to improve yourself ?? We also received a tidy sum from Chels - how much did we get for Defoe ?? Defoe has always been a mercenary 'Andy Hunt' as you put it. Talking about Scott reminded me oof a home game v Newcastle 4/ 5 years ago where Scotty scored a screamer from 30 yards for Newcastle but Lee Bowyer scored a most bizarre own goal. Scott got booed onto the park and Lee got cheered !
Oh so it all about parky then was it. I can t get all dewy eyes over a player that got paid well, treated even better and sat on the grass and refused to train because he wanted more money. That is the actions of a whore. I wonder what would have happened if we sold him 6 months later that season as he agreed just two weeks before going on strike? More money for us? A top 5 finish. A pox on him.
We got 11 million for him, if criticism is being handed out, remember part of that money purchased Francis Jeffers (complete waste of space) and Danny Murphy (also managed an exit), and Mr Dowie then wasted lots of money on rubbish too. Parker handled it badly, but it's not as if he's the only person to have foreced a move through.
Its not important how much we got for him and how the money was spent. You can't mitigate his behavior onto others percieved mistakes or otherwise. He wanted out and did it by blackmail. You can excuse a teenager or a foreigner but not a grown man that we had nutured and devoloped. I for one take great delight in him never achieving his potential and he can wear as many expensive badly done up ties he wants, wont make his trophy cabinet look any more impressive. the blokes a judas, and took his thirty pieces of silver.
The thing that really grates me about Parker leaving is that it was so clearly about the money and not developing his football career. I'm always delighted when someone comes through the youth system and goes on to establish themselves in professional football (As it is a very difficult thing to achieve at any level) and as with Super Scott was a hero of mine through my teens. But he forced his move to Chelsea when anyone with half an eye open could see that he was going there as injury cover and would fail to get enough game time to get the recognition he deserved once certain players were fit/back from international duty and thats what I'll never forgive leaving us when we were really pushing on as a club (and the truth is we never really replaced him) for nothing but short term gain (and it clearly held him back for 4/5 years). For me I wont boo or clap if I'm at a game where he is playing, the unhappiness that I felt about him leaving has largely wained now and he's just another footballer for me. That being said if he's in the England team at the Euro's I'll be behind the team 100% no matter who is in it.
A friend of mine knew Scott Parker's uncle, it seems after the McDonalds advert Scott's father was inundated with telephone calls from 'so called bigger clubs' offering him lots of silver. His dad wouldn't talk to them and said Scott was staying with Charlton and he signed his Pro Contract. After he got married and his wife had a baby he put his family first when offered a contract (by Chelsea) at TWICE what we were paying him and, as I understand it, he was told that this offer wouldn't be on the table unless he signed in January. Charlton were being offered £11m which I think Scott thought was fair (he didn't request a move when Chelsea only offered £7m I think it was) so he probably thought everybody would win and he wanted to financially protect his new family. Perhaps he didn't handle the situation in the best manner but it was handled much better than Defoe's who just said "sod you Charlton I'm off" he didn't wait for a fee to be agreed but just went.
I am not sure that is right at all. I am always sceptical about friends off arguments because they are not impartial nor are they likely to be relayed in a fair and balanced way. Snott Parker (and I rememeber this) told curbs he would stay until end of season (two weeks before leaving), he agreed that he owed the club that and it would further he blossoming England career. Chelsea wanted to derail us (they were below us or very close in the table) so they put in the offer. It hardly is a new or novel sales tactic to say the offer was time limited and snott wanted the money. Curbs promised to let him go but snott refused to play or train and sat on the pitch in a huff. The club sold him and dropped down the table. SCA has already said what happened. That horrible slut cost us millions. Defoe was 16 when he left the club and was unable to sign (or probabaly read) contracts. He was poor kid with greedy relatives. He was sold off and his age should be a factor here, comparing the wto is hardly fair.
I'm undecided on Parker. I'm really not sure you can blame Parker leaving for all our subsequent decline. True, we were flying when he left, but I don't believe we would have made Europe had he stayed (although of course there's no way of knowing). Doing so would have been truly miraculous, and I think Scott realised that he was never going to win titles with us, and even if we did get into Europe, we wouldn't get very far. That said, I fail to understand how he thought moving to Chelsea would be a good move, given that they had plenty of world-class midfielders already. I suspect he bitterly regrets it now, as I feel he should have been an England regular for the past five years, and may well have been had he either stayed or moved somewhere where he would play regularly.
Remember - Under Ranieri, Scotty actually played. If it wasn't for a injury he would have been near ever present for them that season. Unfortunately for him Ranieri got sacked in the summer and Jose didn't fancy him as much. AH pretty much has the story about his family spot on. I don't think he even denies the money motive, but then there was things such as experiencing Champions League football too. As said before, he was a hero growing up and I will always have fond memories of him on that pitch. Personal favourite of mine.
I dont have a huge problem with Scotty - he gave us a lot more than Defoe did - he did something that all of us would have done in our workplace given the opportunity - in his case the possibility of playing in the Champs League - something he would never had done with us. Good luck to him.
