I'll say - local kid (St Albans) Oliver Tarbet got through to the second round ... that was worth £99k but he can only have 10% of it because he's not yet turned pro - he's a 21 year old kid on a sports scholarship to a US University ... still... not a bad summer job ...

**** knows what you get for actually winning it <laugh>

I was reading up on Virginia Wade the other day, when she first won some tennis event, her first major type of win, she turned down the £300 prize money for expenses paid instead. Although I doubt with her background she needed the money anyway.

Back in the day when all our tennis players were fathered by some Public school type whose only sporting prowess had been an ability to take a hot crumpet from behind with stoic impunity during freshers week ...

We did have one guy called Buster in the men's as I recall...

Anyways - phone battery nearly out - so I'll pick up with you losers after Chelsea have won the Club World Cup and Saf has spent fruitless hours trying to locate anything that suggests our scholarship contracts aren't binding <cheers>

US Open 1968 probs, the money was non existent then. She won 6 majors and was a jolly good person to boot.
