Just for info, a few weeks ago I started on one of those weight loss drugs, Mounjaro. No side effects worth mentioning, as yet, and weight is coming off. Rarely feel hungry. Looks like they work. if you’re a fat twat like me, might be worth considering. I’m doing it because I’ve got a number of minor-ish health conditions that are probably due to/exacerbated by my weight. Plus I want to have an affair with a 21 year old I wasn’t quite fat enough - not often that is said to me - to get it for free (and don’t have a qualifying condition like diabetes) so had to pay. But worth it if it keeps working.
Doc has given me six months to increase my exercise or he's prescribing one of those drugs. Thing is though, when you come off them does the weight go back on or are you on them for life
A mate of mine has been on it for a few months now and he's lost loads of weight. Problem is though it makes him feel bloody awful. So much so, hes now stopped it as feeling really poorly all the time with it wasnt nice at all. Suppose it affects everyone differently.
But if you prefer to exercise less and eat more it’s a handy alternative. It’s not rocket salad. I’m ripped personally, just came on here to see who ate all the pies
I wouldn’t be able to take it if it made me feel crap, so far so good. I’m on a low dose to start, but I’ll only risk going up if the low dose is not working (so far it seems to be)
That’s the key question, does it all go back on? I’m not planning on stopping until I’ve lost a lot, there’s the psychological problem that you tend to give yourself permission to eat more once you’ve lost a bit, but I don’t see why you’d put a lot back on (if I can lose it, that is)
If you stop taking the drugs and return to your previous lifestyle the weight will go back on. Take into account how long it took you to put the weight on,20 years?, taking it off in 6 months is drastic. Also, as your body loses weight it will not be all fat it will also decrease your muscle mass. So you can weigh less but you can have a higher percentage of fat. I admire your decision to take this step, pay for the drugs, and be determined to lose weight. I am very interested to see how you get on with this. Also remember the mental side, if you have a bad 'cheat' day don’t worry to much, your body is missing things it is used to you just have to retrain it. Good luck and stay strong.
Good for you matey. I’m not massive by any means but needed to lose weight after putting on too much as a result of a sedentary job which became even more so when it became home based post lockdowns. I also became a vegetarian for 2.5 years after a health issue and then seeing a Netflix documentary The Game Changers. The programme had one bit in it that stood out, when they analysed the blood plasma of three young athletes, all meat eaters. They put one on a veggie diet for a period of time and then showed the difference in their blood plasma, with the meat eaters continuing to show cloudy blood plasma, that the show hinted was a contributor to clogging arteries, while the veggie diet tester now had clear blood plasma. Anyway was always snacking on toast and cereal as was always hungry as a veggie. Too many carbs equalled weight gain. Fecked it off and went back to eating meat again. Mainly just chicken though. Still found it hard to loose the weight, walking, bought a bike, went to gym, used personal trainers, started Man v Fat 5 a-side every week. Was at a stage when sometimes just walking I found my knee starting to give way and almost falling over. Put that down to skipping at the gym and squats and lunges that PTs just over emphasise in training - build biggest leg muscle and burn more calories blah blah. Stopped those and knee is ok. Anyway got pissed off with marginal weight loss after a long period of exercise and good eating. Went to GP to ask about weight loss jabs, she was going on about being pre-diabetic and my weight but said the jabs were only for really large overweight people and so she sent me on a course! Weekly weigh in, usual bollocks about 5 a day and exercise, balanced plate etc. waste of everyone’s time, I liked the discipline about weekly weigh-in but again I know all of this. What I was hoping for was more in-depth advice about checking insulin resistance etc. The lady running it wasn’t qualified to go any further. Anyway fast forward and a mate of mine said get some Mounjaro direct as GP won’t help. I got it online from a pharmacy. Got the 2.5ml dose and have stuck with it for 12 weeks now and have dropped 1 stone and 8lbs. I drink loads of water and do the exercise including weights to help the muscle mass retention. It’s a good steady weight loss, not a crash loss. I have no problem with taking this, it’s important to counter health concerns. I intend to do another 4 weeks as I have a target weight before working towards another through exercise good food etc. For me it’s the one thing that has significantly helped. I think there is an assumption that people who take it are lazy lard arses who sit watching TV stuffing their gobs with cream cakes. That wasn’t my case, while I was a bit of a chocolate fan I did do weeks of clean eating and exercise will little impact, yet there was something else at play stopping weight loss, age, medicines, insulin who knows. Well done on posting your Mounjaro update. I’m really pleased it’s working for you as well. Might be able to get one of those bloody skinny fit replica tops soon!
Some of it is surely your genes ....a mate of mine many years ago was like a stick insect compared with me(slightly overweight) he ate like a horse drank Guinness yet never put any weight on, his parents were the same tall and skinny.... obviously health issues can impact any exercise regime no matter your willingness to improve in that sector...live for the day tomorrow may never come
Don’t know about that, I do have relatives who are apparently disinterested in food, and as a result thin as. I’m pretty sure that’s genetic as some of the children are the same.
I think that’s right about meat eating, I’ve cut down on the red meat, at least. Mainly fish and chicken. thanks for the motivational chat
here isa good explanation the 3 basic body types, there is also a little test that can help your know you own body type. https://www.health.com/body-type-8699069
All I say is get on ya Bike. one of the best forms of exercise for weight loss. not just that its the perfect weather taking in a few sights while doing it. Best thing I ever done about 10 year ago. I was drinking to much smoking to much and people started calling me fat and saying oh god you've put some weight on and that was it. I still drink and have good nights out but not like i did. Smoking stopped and now as fit as Ive ever been.
Typical doctor, only addressing the one issue in front of them. There’s other ways to boost iron (though red meat is for sure an effective tube way)
Weetabix are a good source for iron. My dad's iron levels were low following an operation on his lungs back in March. The only thing he changed in his diet was instead of eating Albran he switched to Weetabix (at beginning of June) and whilst his iron levels are still below normal they have improved. Since start of July , he's replaced one of his evening meals from chicken to liver, to see if the improvement will continue.
