When I saw that Petrovic had apparently snubbed them to go to Bournemouth I did think that Sunderland might look at Ramsdale. If he wants to play Prem football I’m not really sure what his options are. Newcastle are apparently looking for a new keeper and are heavily linked with Trafford from Burnley, so if he goes Burnley would need a new number 1, but relegation contender looks like his only shot if he wants to stay in the PL, similar to when we signed him last year. Main difference being that if he turned us down last year he would’ve sat on the bench at Arsenal where as here he’d be the starter, all be it in a lower league. As DTLW said a loan swap of Ramsdale/Patterson does make a lot of sense for both parties.
I'm sure a number of teams have Matty on their shopping lists. His ability and attitude hasn't gone unnoticed, it'll be a major coup if he's still with us next season.
I have resigned myself to the strong probability that he won't be with us next season and therefore my hope has substantially diminished. Then, people keep posting comments like that, my hope is resurrected (a bit) and, well, you know what they say about hope? Will people please stop being even remotely positive about this - that will prevent me from smashing things up when he goes at the end of the window.
Interesting to view Fernandes as a potential replacement for Eze or Morgan Gibbs White. Those 2 are both being talked about going for £60m, yet we've been told £35m would get you Fernandes' hair. If thats the case then we must be looking for around £50m for Fernandes. I know he is very good but if £60m gets you a top international PL player like Eze or Gibbs White, then who is going to pay £50m for Fernandes? Edit - the obvious answer is of course hopefully no one!
I actually think the biggest factor on how selling clubs value players is length of contract. MGW and Eze both have 2 years left, if they had 4 like Fernandes then I don’t think either would be leaving this summer as they’d be priced out of the move
I assume Forest would be asking a lot more than £60m for MGW if his (rumoured) £60m release clause didn't exist. I could see him doing really well at Spurs.
Potentially, not sure if they'd get it mind you. Even in today's market I don't see any clubs stumping up £80m+ for him. You don't want to replace your best players like Eze or Gibbs-White with potential.
According to the Star and on the BBC internet, we have agreed terms with Sheffield Wed for Sutura Kakay (18) midfielder
I have a nasty suspicion that Saints fans need to be more worried by Prem clubs poaching our best academy players. I had expected Pattison to be the first poached this summer but was shocked by this. Just feel our academy is a cash cow for other clubs. The best players will be snapped up to reach their potential with Prem clubs as they appreciate they can so better than Saints. Most with end up League One and Two whereas the remainder will be bit part players in the Championship. The effects of relegation now has a bearing on Championship club academies.
It happens to all academies outside of the top clubs in the country, regardless of PL status. Players can sign their first pro deal at 16 and there’s nothing the club they’ve been at before then can do if they choose to leave. City and Chelsea especially hoover up all the promising players in that age group from all over the country
Yeah I agree, he’s probably third choice at best for England though isn’t he? Don’t follow the national team much
Although I think Rambo should be in England World Cup squad, even playing his socks off for a Prem team I can’t see Tuchel taking him. Pickford, Henderson & Trafford will be the 3 sadly…. He should just stay here where we’ll love him and become a cult hero after taking us to Europe by the time he has his testimonial
The problem is he's the highest paid Southampton player ever. Our financial position is OK at the moment but we've seen teams try to push the envelope and tumble down the leagues in the past. I'd love Rambo to stay but the club need to be prudent in the medium term. He's reported as being on £120,000 a week!
Yeah for sure, he’ll surely be off this season even if only a loan to clear the wages until we’re back where we belong. Really do have an affinity for Rambo - he’s a rare breed! The fact he picked to play for us last season when he could’ve gone abroad and play European football for huge clubs shows that he has such a genuine passion & drive that is barely seen in modern day football. Just wants to play every week, be amongst it and is the exact type of personality that I think would thrive under Still & would help Still to grow and thrive in England also! & for me that type of player is rare to come by and is deserving of the high wages than any other!!
He will have 100% had a clause that drops his wage upon relegation. Pretty much every player in our squad will also have one.
