    BREAKFASTDEBATE.jpg

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 9th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Terms agreed with Longstaff

Leeds United are on the brink of completing their fifth significant summer signing, with reports from 'The Shields Gazette' indicating that Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff has agreed personal terms with the Whites. This imminent arrival is set to inject a crucial blend of stability and experience into Daniel Farke's midfield for life in the Premier League.

The Elland Road hierarchy's persistence has paid off, with their third and final bid for the 27-year-old seemingly now accepted by the Magpies. The offer is understood to be worth an estimated £10 million, with an additional £2 million in performance-related add-ons, reflecting Leeds' serious intent to add depth to the squad.

For Newcastle United, the impending sale of Longstaff represents a shrewd piece of financial management. The club had proactively extended Longstaff’s contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, a crucial step taken to prevent the academy graduate from leaving on a free transfer this summer. As an academy product, his book value for accounting purposes is effectively zero, meaning the entirety of the transfer fee directly boosts their financial compliance position.

How long can Leeds wait on Muniz

Leeds United's ambition to secure Rodrigo Muniz as their marquee summer signing is clear, but how long can they afford to wait? The Elland Road hierarchy view the Fulham forward as the proven goalscorer needed to spearhead their survival challenge.

While personal terms are reportedly already agreed with the Brazilian ace, the financial aspect remains a significant hurdle. Fulham originally said to value Muniz at £50 million, a figure well above Leeds initial £32m deal, inclusive of add-ons.

Fulham's willingness to part with Muniz hinges on securing a suitable replacement, a factor that could prolong negotiations. Despite being limited to just eight Premier League starts last season due to Raul Jimenez's form, the 23-year-old Muniz possesses undeniable talent. His impressive scoring rate of 0.75 goals per 90 minutes last term, bettered only by a handful of elite forwards, underscores his potential.

For Leeds, time is of the essence. Their urgent need for a prolific striker to lead the line means protracted negotiations carry significant risk. The longer the wait, the more opportunities arise for rival clubs, like Tottenham Hotspur, who are also rumoured suitors, to enter the fray.

Leeds now in advanced talks with Milinkovic-Savic

Leeds long-standing summer quest for a top-notch goalkeeper appears to be reaching its climax, with overnight reports indicating the club is now in advanced talks with Torino's Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. It seems Leeds are truly determined to secure their man, as journalist Alfredo Pedulla (via Leeds United News) note the Yorkshire club "insists" on getting a deal done with both player and Torino.

Further updates from Pedulla confirm that Milinkovic-Savic is available to leave Torino if a team pays his release clause by the end of July. This clause is valued at just under €20 million for Italian clubs and slightly above €20 million for those abroad. While Napoli had previously shown interest, they haven't pursued the move aggressively.

Crucially, Leeds has reportedly made a new, in-depth enquiry for the former Manchester United youngster and could now be considering activating this clause. Although no final decision has been made yet, the situation is rapidly developing and certainly one to watch closely. This could well be the decisive move Leeds makes to bolster their goalkeeping ranks for the upcoming season.

Rodrigo was limited to just eight Premier League starts last term, owing to the resurgence of Raul Jimenez, but the former Wolves man is now 34, and it may be time for Marco Silva to move towards the younger man.

    Morning all

Sunderland have been knocked back on a couple of goalkeeper approaches, we need to treat our signing of one as extremely urgent now, there are a few other teams looking for new keepers, we can't be left with our final option and held over a barrel.

Clickbait sites are full of contradictions on Savic, some saying we are in with a shout, others saying he has no interest in joining, if he is open to a move get it done, if he is stalling move on.

Longstaff - His price is amazing, a very good addition assuming it goes through, he isn't spectacular but he is solid, he brings experience and is a huge upgrade on Rothwell

If we continuing with our transfer policy of giants this serb keeper fits the bill his head nearly touches the crossbar.
We do seem to be pushing buttons this week though I said I'd be happy with 3 this week we could have more fingers crossed.

Also if we get the seb keeper it may pave a way for that serb striker at Lecce.

Milinkovic-Savic arrived at the Granata’s training camp yesterday. He seemed ‘excited but thoughtful’ about his situation, which is quite uncertain.

The outlet explain the Serbian is yet to issue any response to the Yorkshire club about his decision, as the player is unsure about whether he will get regular first-team football or not
    .

He obviously hasn't seen Meslier in action

latest keeper rumour is Fenerbahce's serbian international Livakovic

Fenerbahce were meant to be interested in Meslier but that has gone quiet.

I'm not sure there's a keeper in Europe we haven't been interested in.

To me, cheapskating on a keeper makes no sense. They can save/cost as many points as a top class striker. We have witnessed that over the last few seasons. Pick who we want and pay the fee.

Agree and particularly well surely get 10m for Mesler so you'd expect to have to stump up another decent chunk on top of that

    Morning all,

Can't wait to spend 20 million on a striker for him to sit on the bench while Lord Bamford has a stormer of a season.

Unsubstantiated rumours that Newcastle have accepted Leeds bid for Longstaff.

I spoke on Linkedin with Ekrem Konur yesterday afternoon. He is one of Fenebache's top journo's, and didn't know anything about Leeds interest in Livakovic (who is in-fact a top keeper).

Lyon's appeal has been overturned, means that any chances of signing Perri are evaporating fast!!!!

Do you mean they have won their appeal and their relegation has been overturned?

    Lukas Nmecha (free)
    Jaka Bijol (£15million)
    Sebastiaan Bornauw (£5million)
    Gabriel Gudmundsson (£10million)

Has to be said - I think we have spent very wisely, BUT, I'll be livid if Sunderland break FFP, and stay in the Prem at Leeds expense....

They are no where near breaking PSR. Just from a simple accounting point of view, they could easily spend another £70m without any PSR issues

Been giving it a bit of thought today and there's still a way to go transfer wise but Wolves and Everton squads look absolutely shocking at present, could be the year one if not 2 of the promoted clubs have a chance.

How? Because as I understand stand it you carry the losses under the rules of the division you’ve been in, so the longer you are out of the PL the less money you can spend on promotion (or at least that’s how Stefan Borson, the financial expert on White & Jordan explained it). That’s why the three promoted clubs have been relegated for the past two seasons. We all start at a disadvantage compared with the “established” clubs. Don’t get me wrong, I think PSR is wrong but Villa broke the rules as did Leicester, unfortunately it didn’t pay off for the foxes and it looks like they’ll start with a points deduction when the season starts.

ok they will receive approx £100m from the Premier League Central Fund, they have sold players worth approx £50m, giving them a total potential spend of £150m.

They have spent approx £90m already, so leaves a balance of approx £60m they can spend (sorry I got my maths wrong initially when I said £70m), without any of that having any effect on PSR. They have only spent a portion of the income they have received from the Premier League and transfer sales.

Take into account potential increased gate receipts, retail and commercial deals etc ( same applies to both ourselves and Burnley), they could easily have income without transfer sales of over £120m, which they can spend without it affecting PSR.

Basically PSR says you can spend £39m more per season, than whatever your income is (or whatever relevant level of PSR dependant upon your division).

So if you only spend your income, you can never break PSR, and they still have £60m of guaranteed income to spend
