To be fair I’ve had some really decent pints in Spoons

Can’t stand the owner, but other than that the beer is often good.
Abbot Ale is a nice pint for example, as is the previously mentioned Jaipur
I tend to avoid some Wethers, the ones in Hull are in bad need of some renovation, particularly 3 Johns. But the Beverley one is actually a really nice pub. And Wethers are always unbeatable when you want a pint at 9am, not that I usually do apart from an away game :1980_boogie_down:
I can live with the beer, usually, it's the pubs I don't like. I've been in quite a few over the years (I've a mate who insists on going in one every time we meet up) but they all just seem soulless to me.

Amateurs, I have no problem getting served in a pub. :emoticon-0103-cool:

Maybe I just need more practice :emoticon-0105-wink:. My last post on Wethers but I remember the last time we played Fulham away and like you do, we got to the wethers near Fulham (putney?) at about 9.30. Pub was open but they wouldn't serve until 11. So about 100 hull lads all having a fry up and a coffee. Must be some draconian by law there. That's why London never wins city of culture!

The above dozen or so posts show exactly why one should never go to Wetherspoons! Yes it's cheap but as always you get what you pay for. I'd much rather have one decent pint in a decent pub than 2 in 'Spoons for the same price.

I paid £4.58 for 2 pints of Jaipur in Spoons. Good luck getting even one pint of it for that much elsewhere.

I don't especially like Spoons, but then I don’t particularly like any other PubCo's either, particularly when they're kicking out mediocre beers like Hobgoblin Gold for £5 plus.

Eight Bells pub for Fulham games, opens at 10-00. I don't practice, I send someone else. :emoticon-0138-think

By a strange coincidence there’s a new Wetherspoons opening today in Fulham, the sad bastards were queueing outside at 8am for the opening day

Walk into pub. Find table. Order drinks and/or food on App. Sit back. Chill. Order arrives in good time, served with a smile and good cheer. Effort and stress on your part? Minimal.

Walk into pub. Elbow way to bar trying to avoid the wrath of ‘roided up aggressive Chavs and spittle flecked Gammons. Eventually attract the attention of the one poor sod who’s drawn the ‘work the bar area’ short straw. Order drink. Now search for a table whilst avoiding drunken women on mobility scooters.

Your call in today’s ’Spoons. Live in the future or live in the past.

What really happens is you walk in scout for a vacant table but there are non so you stand and wait eyeing up anyone who appears to be getting ready to leave, finally you see some getting their coats on, moving swiftly across the pub just as you get near another group moves in and beats you to it.
Returning to the space you just left you see people at a table right there have got up to go but there's already new arrivals claiming the place.
Eventually you get to sit down, the table is covered in spilt beer making it all sticky on top of that there's a mountain of dirty plates and empty glasses. Being the techy you order a round of drinks on the app, they arrive quickly and the spotty youf puts them on the table and walks away. You spot a different youf collecting things, get up walk over and ask him to clear your table which to be fair he does. Unfortunately he doesn't wipe down the slopes left on the table top, that's someone else's job. Leaning in to chat with your mates you rest your arm on the table after a short time you get a damp feeling and look to see your best going out shirt is now soaking up half a pint of beer and a load of tomato ketchup.

Ah well, you turn to drink. Now realising that the teenagers behind the bar have no idea how to keep and serve a pint of real ale. Real ale which has been sat in the pipes for days because most customers buy a pitcher of fruit juice with a few shots of vodka in it.

It is cheap though.

I used to work in the town in Hull and there was always a group of people waiting for 3 Johns to open at 9. Very sad. On the subject of Fulham has the new stand been finished? I remember seeing the plans and it looked amazing.

Drinking a pint and a half every time, how very Scottish. :emoticon-0138-think

They wouldn't even let me in there when I tried to go in on a totally City unrelated day. I think they were playing Millwall. Bouncer wouldn't believe I was just a Northern bloke who was thirsty.
