Who would we class as the legends, heroes and reputable/well thought of players throughout our history?

I'll start us off with three for each category:

Legends: Billy Bremner, John Charles, Lucas Radebe
Heroes: Tony Yeboah, Grenville Hair, John Sheridan
Reputable: Jermaine Beckford, Vinnie Jones, Tony Currie

Might take us quite a while, but I hope to see some interesting selections! Also, what is it that makes someone a legend or hero?

For someone to be a legend, I'd say they had to show great loyalty and perseverance with the club and bettered it with their presence.

Heroes I'd say are long-standing players who made a decent contribution, or those who had a big effect but weren't around that long.

Reputable players I'd say were a slightly weaker version of heroes. Not here for very long, or here for a moderate time with reasonable effect, but still remembered.

Ignoring the Smith and Kewell wind-ups, can Gary Kelly really be called a legend? In my view, a legend shows a certain amount of self-sacrifice, and Radebe who deferred his wages for the good of the club was far more selfless than Kelly who wanted to squeeze every last penny out of the coffers in the most precarious time in our history. Reputable perhaps for his long stint, top flight success and one club 'loyalty', but certainly one of these players that put self before side. Certainly not on the same level as Bremner and Madeley!

    My next round -

Legends: Don Revie, Howard Wilkinson, Jack Charlton
Heroes: Trevor Cherry, Frank Gray, Bobby Collins
Reputable: Rod Belfitt, Mike O'Grady, Brian Flynn

See, im not sure i class heroes in the same way as you do. I hate kewell especially right now as much as the next leeds fan if not more but i class the heroes as the kind of player a kid wants to grow up to be, not necessarily a player who sacrificed his own wants for the club.

    Anyway,

    Legend: Johnny Giles
    Hero: Vinnie
    Reputable: Howson, Matteo

They were heroes at the time, but when we're telling the next generation of Leeds fans who the heroes of our club were, there's no way those two backstabbers should be mentioned, unless as examples of what the opposite of Leedsness is.

On your earlier point, I'd class Gary Kelly as a legend. One of only 10 players to have made over 500 appearances for the club. Made his debut during the title winners of 92, and stayed with the club though the European highs to relegation from the Championship.
