That's really interesting. Last time I was in Brid, maybe 2 years ago,I went into a Seafood shop (on the same street where Woolies used to be) to see if I could get some lobsters. They seemed really surprised I wanted whole Lobsters but eventually found me 4 in the back. As you say perhaps there just isn't the demand.
I know the feeling I usually forget to take a picture. Made really nice smash burgers last night. Way to keen to scoff them to remember to take a picture. If I take a picture its usually of food the wife or daughter has picked
I think it's seen as expensive and fiddly to prepare and cook. Personally I think it's overrated. Although a grilled lobster tail looks good on the plate it can be tough and a bit tasteless.
Last time in Brid (two months ago) struggled to find a chippy open at 5.30pm in the harbour area. Think there was 3 or 4 either closed or in the process of closing.
Reason is people here don’t want to buy them. Same as the great seafood caught in Scotland. Was watching a Rick Stein programme in Scotland and he was saying the odds are if you were eating certain shellfish and seafood in Spain and France it was likely to be from Scotland and not their own.
Aware of that but for a combination of things, time, getting some tea, sightseeing, a trip down memory lane, parking, showing some out of towners the sights the harbour area seemed to be the logical place to go.
True. But most chippies in town know this and aren’t as bothered about quality as those relying on locals. And with the costs of rents and rates and a short season have to charge more.
Two much effort for most people here. Only want something they can cook in a bag and get sat down in front of the TV.
They should charge £10 for people wanting curry sauce on fish and chips for crimes against good taste.
