He's the one, Glasgow windbag, him not you... The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Ex Glasgow MP and a Bhoy, I wrongly had him pegged as Glaswegian, every day is a school day. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Yes,I used to see him 'crawling around' the West End of Glasgow during his Hillhead days..Gave him a bit of heckling as I walked past him one day and it came back in spades(or shovels if that's what we've to refer to them as nowadays). Like I say,not my politics, not many people's politics but he was and still is extremely sharp in debate.
I didn’t say there wasn’t It was you that referred to a right wing thug, and I simply said racist is abhorrent, regardless of which side of the political spectrum it comes from.
It is true though. I said "I've literally no idea anymore what we are supposed to say.". That is true. Believe me. You then start your response with 2 of the very obvious examples of what we are NOT supposed to say i.e. nothing to do with what we are supposed to say. From the rest of your comments, it sounds like you aren't particularly sure what 'we' are supposed to say nowadays either. Sort of point proven. What a stupid mess.
Knowing what not to say narrows down what you can say so you clearly have an ‘idea’ Nice effort at pedantry though. I know that the preferred descriptor by most is Person Of Colour, which is why I used that term in my response, so I’m perfectly sure thanks. As are you. You just don’t like being told what you should say that’s all.
Totally agree. Yourself, Dennis and Ric are all right in what you say. It's become far from black and white ironically. There are obvious words you cannot say, words that are offensive to all people. But then you have words and phrases that I genuinely don't know if they are offensive or not, so you stay clear where possible but the logic suggests they shouldn't be offensive to the majority. For example 'coloured people'. I'm pretty sure the phrase 'people of colour' is a phrase used widely and is accepted so what is the difference? You don't need to be a raging gammon these days to upset people with what can be fairly innocent terminology.
Out of genuine interest, GFaW, why would you need to say anything? How often do you mention race in day to day conversation?
So, you know know the difference between proper fans and those who aren’t. Proper fans go to every game they can. Some find reasons not to.
Without dragging this on all day,I'll be quite honest and say I'm not at all sure what to call anyone these days.Fully aware and don't need to be reminded by anyone that N*****,*arkie and W** are taboo, wouldn't use them, don't use them, don't need to use them. Maybe I'll need to enrol in night classes or further education because this whole situation requires the mental fortitude and understanding of a Philadelphia Lawyer...
And that absolutely is a big part of the whole point! We of course should not use what is clearly accepted as offensive words (as DBT started off his response with examples of). Beyond that, it really shouldn't be an issue. But some people seem hell bent on being offended, on highlighting differences that don't even need flagging (and not just with skin colour), etc etc. Young unadulterated children don't see or care about differences, they just get on with stuff; why don't we as adults?
Twice the length from the centre to any one of the ends. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Don't know. Something we learned from times back in the Empire days when things like that were categorised, ranked and used to divide and conquer, I guess. To be honest, I work with a lot of nationalities, mix socially when offshore on the rig and often have more in common/identity/humour with Kenyans, for example, than with Germans in their weird Rupert bear smart casual trousers or Spanish and Italians, despite the skin colour similarities. Perhaps it's the British colonial backgrounds.
